Generative AI has done so much damage to everything
'Blue Planet III' will deliberately include murkier and less polished underwater footage to assure viewers it's real and not AI-generated 🌊 The David Attenborough-narrated series won't feature a single AI-generated frame (via @guardian)

People keep trying to make sarcopterygian hexapods work even though it wouldn't ever happen here's a better and way more underrated idea, just do stingrays
I want to believe a vertebrate hexapod got spun out of the Devonian and its fossil remains yet lay entombed in the Earth awaiting discovery.

War begins. Smallpox still exists in 1939s Europe. Immediate time-displaced plague with 30%+ lethality besets Africa. No other factor gets a chance to become relevant.

The arthropod world feels like a truly fallen world: everything is armed and armored, poisons and chemical weapons abound, deaths are horrible, you're an inconsequential one of countless many. The natural world at the human scale is comparatively fuzzy and friendly and edenic.

Rocky’s internal structure in PROJECT HAIL MARY (2026) is such a fascinating piece of creature design. An alien life-form unlike anything we’ve seen before.

It's actually INSANE how prescient this was. They made this in 2011! This is basically what it's like to use computers now. It's barely exaggerated

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Marketing teams being shit at their job has done more to harm the movie industry than any shitty director ever could.
‘Forgotten Island’ has surpassed $20.6M in the global box office against a budget of $80M. It is unfortunately so far one of the worst performing DreamWorks films despite its critical acclaim.

Right now, you can reference mass culture because people still remember it. AI has all this rich content to mine But eventually this will run dry. And so you’ll get brain rots referencing brain rots, all the way down We’ve seen nothing in terms of slop yet

Their bodies need not reflect their reach. They manifest at will, spiral from the depths like sharks seizing a swimmer silhouetted above. In the face of these beings, in your utter destitution, you will find that there are more shades of darkness than a mind can withstand. (2/3)

The real answer to this stuff is that there was an entire subset of talented blockbuster auteur (Jackson, Lucas, Zemeckis, Cameron, Ang Lee somewhat) who saw the advances in digital filmmaking we got in the 00's and it instantly fried their brains to a crisp.
it’s wild how much evidence there is that Peter Jackson is a grade A hack and that the fact the three Lord of the Rings movies are near masterpieces is more miracle than anything else.
