It is important to actively teach children that skin color *should* not matter; that we *should* not judge a person by their skin color; that skin color *should* be as irrelevant as the colors of our clothes. 1/9
Most stories of Black history are rooted in the violence inflicted upon us. We were conscious of the stories we chose to elevate for our month-long series, centering those that aren't rooted in the violence inflicted upon us.

Black History Month is a time where educators should take seriously the history of violence and oppression that have been done to Black people, but also make clear that Black life is not singularly defined by that violence. The story of Black life is far more expansive than that.
