No family would chose to ride bay area transit for financial efficiency - it is virtually never cheaper (in fact, grossly more expensive); actively penalizing families for either not being able to afford a car or choosing a more environmentally responsible travel mode.

BART fares are only affordable for middle to upper class commuters. BART is unaffordable for families.
Low-income, senior, and youth passes are not discounted enough and are too difficult to apply for
Discounted pass should be available at every station for $1 or less

Downtowns should be places where residents, businesses, visitors, and nightlife thrive, but does Oakland's Broadway, the main street through downtown, accomplish that goal? What would you like to see changed make Broadway more welcoming? Here’s a thought experiment, a 🧵(1/21)

Dear Bay Area reporters,
1. BART is full and riders need more service than one train every 20m
2. Riders fully returned to transit in 2024, we are just taking fewer trips per-month
3. BART is the most efficient transit agency in the nation with above average farebox recovery

One possibility to follow successful examples from San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, and Toronto– make Broadway car-free, so it’s easier, safer, and more enjoyable to get around. It’s East Bay’s busiest transit corridor with 3 BART lines and 16 bus lines... (2/21)

Upgrades on Broadway would help transit across the entire East Bay, as quicker bus trips allow for increases in service and better operator breaks. East Bay transit riders deserve world-class service, and that starts with Broadway. (20/21)

Thrilled the BART Board just approved participation in free and discounted transfer pilot program!
This will hugely reduce costs for folks transferring between BART and other transit agencies.
Discount will be implemented when Next Gen Clipper rolls out next year.

A massive $125M will soon be spent on major bike/walk/transit upgrades along San Pablo Ave, Oakland to Albany, but we’ll have fewer buses to take advantage of it. Transit operations & maintenance needs much more state/federal funding, not only infrastructure.
