I’ve been saying this for a while now. Wrestling has shifted. A decade ago, the guys who could scramble the best were winning at the highest level. If you could create chaos, extend positions, and win those crazy exchanges, you had a huge advantage. Now the guys winning at the highest level are doing the opposite. They are so clean in their attacks, so disciplined with their position, and so precise with their finishes that they eliminate the scramble before it ever starts. They don’t give you hips. They don’t give you space. They don’t give you a chance to turn a bad position into a 50/50 exchange. Scrambling still matters. You better know how to do it. But the next level is learning how to score without letting the match get messy. Clean entries. Tight finishes. Position first. Points second. The best guys aren’t just winning scrambles anymore. They’re making sure you never get one.
