Trying to break into IT but struggling to get hands-on help desk experience?
I want to share a FREE resource that I personally used when preparing to enter the IT field: Service Desk Simulator.
Here’s why I recommend it. 👇
5/ One thing I’ve learned throughout my career transition is that you have to be intentional about building practical experience.
Build a home lab. Practice troubleshooting. Work through simulated tickets.
Don’t just study IT. Start doing IT.
6/ Best part? It’s completely FREE!

I personally found it valuable during my transition into IT, and I think it’s an underrated resource for anyone trying to get their foot in the door.
If you’re already in IT, what free resources would you recommend to someone trying to land their first help desk job?
Good morning, tech community! ☀️
Just wanted to take a moment to appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge, experiences, and encouragement. This community has been a huge part of my growth in IT, and I’m grateful to connect with so many people who genuinely want to see others succeed.
What’s everyone working on today? 🚀
Another day, another step closer to my CCNA! 💻
Today’s lab focus: OSPF. Getting hands-on with configurations, neighbor adjacencies, and route selection.
Every lab brings new lessons, mistakes, and progress. One concept at a time! 🚀

First night shift in Help Desk! 🌙💻
New schedule, new challenges, and another opportunity to learn something new.
IT doesn’t stop when the traditional workday ends. Looking forward to gaining experience supporting users and keeping things running around the clock.
Who else has worked the night shift in IT? What’s your experience been like? 👇
Me as a career changer. I built my own 6 figure e-commerce company then transitioned to an IT Help Desk I position. The pay kinda hurt my self esteem but I am gaining real enterprise experience alongside my network and security studies. I am excited to see where things go next.
Been working on VLANs and etherchannel all day I want to know my configs by heart and hence time for the exam
Halloween is over, the decorations are coming down, and it’s time to get back to what matters… LABBING! 🎃💻
Back to Packet Tracer, sharpening those networking skills, and putting CCNA concepts into practice.
