"América Invertida" es una obra emblemática de nuestro gran pintor Joaquín Torres-García. Hoy, Lula la levantó en alto por las calles de Río de Janeiro. Las coordenadas que el artista plasmó (S 34°41' W 56°9') señalan el lugar donde el General José Artigas, junto al ejército oriental, libró la batalla de Las Piedras el 18 de mayo de 1811: un hito histórico para la independencia oriental y para toda nuestra América. Aquella lucha por la libertad y la soberanía sigue viva. Aquellas banderas siguen flameando, y las seguimos levantando con orgullo y convicción. Lula encarna esa lucha, por el Brasil y por toda nuestra América.
