Conservation note: the Tricarinate Hill Turtle is a freshwater turtle that barely touches water. It forages the sal-forest floor of the sub-Himalayan terai — 5-7 in, Endangered, and losing ground as that forest thins. turtlefluent.com/species/tri…

Geography note: the Bog Turtle doesn't have one range — it has hundreds of tiny ones. It needs spring-fed calcareous fens, shallow and sunlit, scattered across the eastern US. Lose one wet meadow and that population has nowhere to walk to. turtlefluent.com/species/bog…

Species spotlight: the Blanding's Turtle barely ages. Females are still nesting in their 70s with no measurable drop in fertility — one of the clearest cases of negligible senescence in any vertebrate. turtlefluent.com/species/bla…

Conservation note: the Magdalena River Turtle is Colombia's only endemic Podocnemis - Critically Endangered, found nowhere else on Earth. It nests on sandy river banks, and those banks are vanishing. A big side-neck with a very small map. turtlefluent.com/species/mag…

Care tip: the Parrot-Beaked Tortoise is one of the world's smallest tortoises — 3-5 in full-grown — and a coastal fynbos specialist. Dry scrub, a flower-and-succulent diet, and a 25-35 year horizon. Small body, long commitment. turtlefluent.com/species/par…

Geography note: the Serrated Hinged Terrapin ranges across rivers, lakes and seasonal pans of eastern and southern Africa - one of the largest African side-necks. The serrated rear shell margin names it; the hinged plastron does the rest. turtlefluent.com/species/ser…

Feeding behavior: the Wood Turtle drums its front feet against the ground to mimic rainfall - earthworms surface, and lunch arrives. One of the sharpest problem-solvers in the order, and now Endangered. turtlefluent.com/species/woo…

Species spotlight: Blanding's Turtle wears a permanent smile - that bright yellow chin and throat. Behind it, a slow life: 70-80+ years, late maturity, and nesting trips over 2 miles from the home wetland. Every road crossing counts. turtlefluent.com/species/bla…

Conservation note: the Six-tubercled Amazon River Turtle is named for six bony tubercles on its plastron. Females mass on dry-season sandbars to nest — the same habit that makes them easy to harvest. Hunted for meat and eggs, it's now Vulnerable. turtlefluent.com/species/six…

Community question: has anyone here come across the Coahuilan Box Turtle? While its cousins walk the woods, this one went back to the water — a semi-aquatic box turtle found only in the spring-fed marshes of Cuatro Ciénegas, Mexico. turtlefluent.com/species/coa…

Geography: the Palawan Forest Turtle's scientific name — leytensis — points to Leyte, an island it has never lived on. A mix-up sent searchers to the wrong side of the Philippines for decades. Its real range: Palawan and Dumaran, nowhere else. turtlefluent.com/species/pal…
