U.S. manufacturing just hit 55.5 on the ISM index. Production is accelerating, but material costs remain high and suppliers are falling behind.
The real opportunity isn't another AI startup.
It's rebuilding our industrial capacity.

In 2025, China's fleet of Gigacasting presses ran at about 19% utilization 🏭🇨🇳
There are more than 100 installed machines above 6,000 tons in China, more than anywhere else in the world. Most of them are waiting for parts to cast.
The exception shows how uneven the market is. Guangdong Hongtu says its presses above 6,000 tons already run at 80% capacity, with yield above 94%, largely on work for Xpeng.
Even there, its 16,000-ton island runs below average because the customer orders it serves keep changing.
That is why a Chinese press order tells you very little. China has the widest gap of any region between ordered and installed machines, and most orders sit with suppliers, not in OEM plants. A new press often adds to the idle capacity rather than to production.

🇨🇳📄The China Gigacasting Market Report goes through this plant by plant. It covers what is installed against what was announced, how much the presses actually run, which OEM programmes are producing at scale, and a bottom-up forecast to 2030.
The Gigacasting Database holds the raw records underneath it.
Each row is one aluminum machine from 6,000 tons or magnesium thixomolding machine from 5,000 tons, with who ordered it, who installed it, which plant it sits in, and which part or vehicle it belongs to.
For Hongtu alone, it lists machines of 6,000, 7,000, 9,000, 12,000 and 16,000 tons.

Who do I need to talk to help build racks for these?
Elon has unveiled the names of @SpaceX’s two new supercomputer clusters that are coming soon, which will bring online an additional ~$35+ billion of GPUs:
• Gun Range: Late November
• Spam: December
That’s ~420,000 Nvidia GB300s GPUs between them. SpaceX is absolutely COOKIN’ with how quickly they’re putting up these new clusters.

Pumped storage stations use up to 30% more electricity lifting water than the water gives back on the way down.
Bath County, Virginia, exists to move power across the day all the same. Pumps lift water to the upper reservoir at 12.7 million gallons a minute when demand is low. It comes back through six turbine generators at 13.5 million a minute when demand rises. That drops the upper reservoir by as much as 105 feet.
Bath County entered service in December 1985 and its 3,003 MW make it the largest pumped storage plant in North America.

ALT Cross-section diagram of the Bath County pumped storage station in Virginia, not to scale. An upper reservoir of 265 acres, behind a dam 460 feet high, connects through tunnels to a powerhouse with six turbine generators and a lower reservoir of 555 acres. 12.7 million gallons a minute are pumped up when demand is low, usually overnight (blue). 13.5 million gallons a minute fall when demand rises (red). The upper level moves as much as 105 feet and the lower 60 feet. Footer: 3,003 MW generating capacity, 750,000 homes it can supply, in service since 1985. Source: Dominion Energy.

Robots Made in America
@sdianahu
Robot foundation models are starting to transfer skills from one machine to another, which means the bottleneck is shifting to hardware.
The U.S. still imports much of its robots and their critical components. We want to see founders rebuild that supply chain here, from magnets, motors, gears, and sensors to chips, batteries, and the machines that make them.
