ALT The Office of the Governor has requested information regarding programs and initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and Critical race Theory (CRT) at all Florida colleges and universities. Through the generous financial support of the Governor and Legislature, we have created a robust marketplace of ideas where students, faculty, and staff can pursue avenues of discovery in one of the nation’s elite institutions. Faculty take seriously our fiduciary duty to steward public resources effectively to advance the interests of the state and its diverse citizens. In the absence of transparency, this request sends a chilling message that anyone who engages with topics that elected officials deem controversial is not welcome in the State of Florida. The UF Faculty Senate leadership strongly supports the personal freedom of our students, faculty, and staff to academic self-determination and the ability to provide an environment of diverse intellectual thought.

ALT “At the end of the day, our university’s reputation comes down not to what is happening around us, but what we do — our outstanding teaching and research,” said Amanda J. Phalin, chair of the Faculty Senate. “In the midst of turbulence external and internal, we kept going, strong. We educated our students, made amazing new discoveries, created unforgettable art, provided health care to our community and more. This ranking is a testament to the skills and passion, individually and collectively, of us, the UF faculty.”
