This is a great opportunity for students wanting to study abroad who are unable to spend a whole semester away.
Interested in studying abroad without the semester-long commitment? Maymesters are four-week, 3-credit courses that take place from late May to mid-June. The application deadline is November 15 (this Friday!). Visit the @UTexasGlobal website to apply. global.utexas.edu/abroad/app…

#Augustine was born today, November 13, 354, in Thagaste (Souk Ahras, #Algeria). There are no ruins of the ancient city, but legend has it that he planted this olive tree. Plaques next to the tree commemorate his life in four languages.

In the #Roman world it was believed that the waters of some rivers & streams had curative properties. Most were used for medical ailments, but Pliny mentions a river whose waters improved your intellect, & a stream in Africa which made your voice more musical #FolkloreThursday

Our #wagswednesday feature is Arnold! Arnold is a 14 year old kitty who loves naps, petting sessions, and stretching his legs out. Any department event hosted by @AntiqueThought is usually a chance for students and faculty alike to spend some quality time with Arnold.

Replying to @UTClassics
Don't be fooled by his sweet face, though. Arnold is as acrobatic as his younger sibling, Doña la Serena. As @AntiqueThought put it: You'd think that a cat who is by now significantly out-weighed by his medical records might decide to stop doing thing like this. You’d be wrong.

The theater of #Timgad, just south of the forum. The orchestra and lower seats are well preserved (with some restoration). The stage building and uppermost rows of seating are gone: in 539 the Byzantine general Solomon used the stones to build a fortress.
