Raheem Morris says the biggest lesson from becoming an NFL head coach at 32 was that leadership requires empowering people, not proving you have all the answers: “You’ve got to empower the people around you. They make you who you are. There are always going to be people around you who can give you advice. Particularly when you hire them. You can listen to them to make you better.” “When I was 32 years old as a head coach, there was no manual you put on your desk. You’ve got to add people into your building who have bigger-picture thoughts.” “High capacity to do different things. You’ve got to empower people within your building. Let their cultures come out of their room and move into your team.” “You’ve got to be able to talk to your owner and tell him the absolute truth. Be honest and upfront.” “You don’t know what answer you’re going to get. All you know is that you can tell him the truth.”
