Started again over at @SigmarsReturn for the few who may be interested.
If the Dodgers had a different manager they probably have double the championships in the last 10-15 seasons.
If I were playing I would have simply made sure I hit the ball over the fence in the playoffs at Yankee Stadium in front of Dua Lipa.
But that’s just me. I guess I’m built different.
Ben Rice’s 39 home runs this year surpass Giancarlo Stanton’s highest single season total as a Yankee (38 in 2018).
The MLB Home Run Derby is so much better without the clock, both for the players (not having to swing at essentially every pitch due to time constraints) and the viewers (not having to endure ridiculous whiplash-inducing editing, being able to marvel at the tremendous home runs).
Championship seasons by New York team since 2000:
Yankees: 2000, 2009
Mets:
Giants: 2007, 2011

If Max Scherzer gets 7 more strikeouts, he will push “The Big Train” Walter Johnson out of the top 10 in career strikeouts for the first time in ~110 years.
Johnson became the career strikeout king in 1920 and remained so for 63 more years until he was finally surpassed in 1983.
If he were to somehow maintain that number the rest of the season, he would be one one-thousandth of a point ahead of Babe Ruth’s 1920 (first season with the Yankees), where he slashed .376/.532/.847, scored 158 runs, had 36 2Bs, 9 3Bs, 54 HRs, 135 RBIs, and walked 150 times.
Roman Anthony hit a home run on the anniversary of Caesar’s death. America really is the Third Rome.
Mahomes saw all the stats about Brady never taking a snap while eliminated from the playoffs so he had his knee explode to make sure he wouldn’t take a snap the rest of the season.
Babe Ruth pitched a 14 inning shutout in the World Series, but went hitless as a batter.
Babe Ruth twice hit 3 home runs in a World Series game, but didn’t pitch in either.
Ohtani really is a unicorn.
Ohtani has two legitimate claims to the best game of all time.
9/19/24: 6-6, 3 HRs, 2 2Bs, 10 RBI, 2 SB
10/17/25: 3-3, 3 HR, 1 BB, 3 RBI ***and*** 6 innings pitched, 0 runs, 10 strikeouts in a series-clinching win to go to the World Series.
Owens himself said he was treated far better by Hitler/Germany than by FDR/America.
Hitler rose and waved at him & Germans wanted his autograph. Whereas in America Owens had to go to the Olympic ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria via the goods elevator. Not even a telegram from FDR
