Privatizing airports is a terrible deal for travellers, workers, and the public purse.
Around the world, it has led to higher travel costs, fewer jobs and worse working conditions.
Private equity moguls and fund managers love it! Once they’re in, they own a piece of a natural monopoly, and they print money for decades.
This is a mistake we do not need to make.
The alternative to privatizing our airports is to NOT DO IT.

Yep. Canadians signed on to fight Trump and increase our security and sovereignty by reducing our dependence on an increasingly erratic and dangerous America. But we did NOT agree to sell off our economy to billionaires, tech broligarchs and shadowy private equity firms!

It is hard to put into words the extreme sadness, frustration, and anger so many of us are feeling with respect to an alleged group attack on a Muslim woman in front of her 7-year-old child and others in Moncton, New Brunswick.
While trying to enjoy a car parade inside a parking lot, the family were allegedly accosted by a group that yelled obscenities at them, including phrases like “Go back to your country."
Moments after, the group then allegedly beat the Muslim women in front of her son, while her husband was some distance away. He said he found her later on with a swollen face and bloody nose, along with other sign of an alleged assault.
This is a horrifying ordeal and the authorities have been alerted. We are in touch with all parties and urge authorities to investigate all angles of this incident, including hate motivations.
Meanwhile, we urge all elected officials in Atlantic Canada and beyond to denounce the rise in Islamophobia across Canada, and to meet with community members.
We will have more to say as the situation evolves.

Today, we are mourning the loss of Gord Delbridge, whose lifelong commitment to working people and the labour movement left an indelible mark on Manitoba and across Canada.
His passion for solidarity and social justice extended far beyond the workplace. Gord believed in the power of collective action and spent his life building a stronger, fairer future for workers and their families.
My heartfelt condolences go out to Gord’s family, friends, colleagues, and every member of the CUPE community who is grieving this profound loss. I hope they find comfort in knowing that Gord’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the movement he helped strengthen.
May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in power.
Rest in Peace Gord Delbridge — Brother to Labour leader, CUPE members, and to me.
Our team is very sad to hear the news that we lost CUPE Local 500’s one of a kind leader.
Gord had the kind of life story that I love: he started off with the City driving a Zamboni and worked his way up to a position of power—power he used to help other people.
Brother Delbridge was a true progressive who publicly pushed for services like the Millennium Library’s Community Connections, which helps the city’s most vulnerable, and privately advocated for equity and inclusion.
I will never forget that Gord was the first union leader to endorse me as Manitoba NDP Leader in 2017 (alongside other good CUPE MB folks). He’s been a source of great advice and unwavering support ever since, including in some tough moments like when we lost our sister-MLA Danielle Adams. Gord always had our back. His last texts to me included a picture he took with Jennifer Flett when she was campaigning in Matheson Island a few weeks back.
My absolute favourite thing about Gord was that he’d call me up and put me on speakerphone so that he could introduce me to people he wanted to get excited about our movement. Over the years I can’t count the number of times we connected like this, but every time Gord would be on the other end saying “Wab, I’m here with CUPE local leaders,” or “I’m here with workers who just started their training,” or simply, “I’m here with neighbours on the deck at Beaver Creek.” I’d give them my spiel and then Gord would jump back on to explain this is how tight our movement is and how we were hard at work for them. In light of this tragic news I’m proud to say I never missed one of those calls.
On behalf of the Province of Manitoba, we send Gord’s family, friends, and many labour movement relatives our sincere condolences. Heaven just gained one hell of an organizer.
