I finally got home yesterday, and today I spent some time just sitting here thinking about what really went wrong with the market we all used to love.
I get it. Markets evolve, environments change, and the way memecoins are traded today is completely different from what it used to be. I'm not against change, but I think I've finally narrowed it down to two things that really fucked up this ecosystem.
Attention became everything, and deployers got lazy.
Remember when teams would actually put some thought into launching a memecoin? They'd come up with an original idea, build a website, create a Twitter account, work on the branding, and genuinely try to figure out how to capture market share within the ecosystem. There was actual effort behind making something people wanted to be part of.
And if you managed to get enough eyes on it, your chart would get absolutely slammed with buys.
Now look at what we've become.
A deployer wakes up, scrolls Twitter, finds some random narrative that might resonate with people, spins up a coin, bundles 20-30% of the supply, and attaches a tweet to the launch.
Maybe they'll tag the original post. Maybe they'll use a second anonymous account to tweet something like "Holy shit, look what I just found" or "This could actually be the next runner."
Pay for DEX, attach the tweet, and congratulations, you've officially launched your memecoin.
That's it. That's the entire fucking business model now.
And here's where I think things really went wrong.
Why would a deployer spend weeks building something when they can launch 10-15 coins a day, bundle the supply, and make more money doing a fraction of the work?
Some get traction, most don't. Doesn't matter. Move on to the next one. Rinse and repeat.
The worst part is that this became the norm. New deployers enter the ecosystem, look at what's working, and copy the exact same playbook. Nobody wants to put in the effort anymore because the market has shown them they don't have to.
So now we're sitting in a giant cesspool of D+ memes, recycled narratives, fake discovery tweets, and bundled supply, with everyone wondering why nothing has the same staying power it used to.
And I think that's what bothers me the most.
We used to trade memes that were trying to become something. Now we're trading launches that were designed to be sold.
I'm not saying every coin back then was some masterpiece or that the old market didn't have its own bullshit. Of course it did. But at least there was an incentive to build something that people might actually care about tomorrow.
Today, the incentive is to extract as much as possible before tomorrow even comes.
I don't think people necessarily stopped loving memecoins. I think the people making them stopped giving us a reason to.
And until that changes, I don't know how we get that old feeling back.
Curious if anyone who's been around long enough sees it differently, because the more I think about it, the more I believe we didn't lose the culture overnight.
We slowly rewarded the people who were killing it.
Normies don't join because of an onboarding flow
They join because someone's cousin w zero insiders turned $500 into 5 figs in 2 hours
Pump buying a community coin > any onboarding
The faster pump realizes this the better it will get.
imma be the first to say this
if pump used the $8M they paid Kimchi to pump a community coin, let's say they bought 8M worth of neet. That would pump neet from 20M mcap to approximately 450-560M market cap.
now imagine the normies that are invested in neet tellin their family and friends "pump bought $8M of a coin and I made 5 figures of it in an hour". I can put my life on the line that would onboard more normies than giving Kimchi $8M to make a pf acc. anyone else agree??

no actually this is the biggest lie ever told
“Good things take time” is the biggest lie ever told.
Good things take a competent team who knows which tools you need to succeed as a trader and knows how to ship them at record speeds.
When we launched Pump Bridge yesterday, I said we’re dedicated to giving you the best possible onchain trading experience, no matter what it takes. We meant that - which is why we’re proud to take another HUGE step towards giving you the MOST edge on Pumpfun with EVM limit orders.
Every social trading app had the chance to ship EVM traders limit orders for all relevant chains after months of pleas for a feature that massively puts them ahead - no one can babysit a trade 24 hours a day - yet no one even tried to ship a solution.
We were late to crosschain trading, yet we were the first to ship limit orders on Solana and now EVM. That’s two MAJOR product releases in just two days. And there’s much more coming.
As of now, we are the fastest shipping team in crypto.
Your trading app should be shipping massive upgrades to your trading experience every single week. If they aren’t, it’s on you to decide which platform is best for your career as a trader.
The sooner you join Pumpfun, the sooner you unlock the chance to become one of the Greats onchain.

5 coins (so far) for a narrative that needed 1 that, could have gone to 10million. This is why the space will never see its former glory

The leftist who shut down Ohio during covid and cost the state tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs doesn't want Ohioans to see any video clips of her radical leftwing views. How could anyone vote for someone hiding their views from voters like this???

what a fucking thing it would be to reach the end of your life knowing you never once betrayed the person you believed you could become. to have chased that vision through every ugly, uncertain phase of the journey until your entire existence became evidence of what happens when you refuse to let go. now go make it real.
You can lose almost everything and still rebuild.
Just make sure you don't lose yourself in the process.
never ever look desperate in life, especially when everything around you is falling apart.
remain calm.
money's gone? stay calm.
heartbroken? stay calm.
all your plans collapsed? stay calm.
panic changes nothing, and desperation makes you do humiliating shit. beg for opportunities, chase people who have already left, accept disrespect, make terrible decisions, all because you're terrified of uncertainty and silence.
learn to contain yourself. you will be back up.
learn to accept that sometimes it's simply your turn to suffer. there isn't always a deeper explanation, a hidden lesson or some grand reason behind it. sometimes life just beats the shit out of you, and right now it's your turn.
stop asking "why me?"
well, why not you?
you asked for strength. did you expect strength to arrive wrapped in comfort?
anybody can look strong when life is easy. what's so impressive about that? the real test of character is whether you can remain composed when everything around you is burning. hard times have a way of revealing whether your strength was actually character or just a facade built on favourable circumstances.
you want to know the real flex? life's a complete shitshow and you move anyway. straighten your posture, get your head right and keep going.
lost money? make it again.
lost a person? keep moving.
lost the plan? build another one.
lost your footing? stand up again.
but never, ever lose yourself.
don't let a temporary season of suffering turn you into someone you wouldn't respect when life gets better.
and one day, the same season that nearly took you out will become a story you tell casually. not to prove how strong you were, not to seek sympathy, but because you're genuinely past it. because you've lived long enough to realise just how temporary all of this shit really is, and understand that staying composed doesn't mean pretending nothing hurts. you can grieve, you can be exhausted, you can admit that life is fucking terrible right now. just don't let your suffering make your decisions for you.
never be desperate. take the hit, keep your posture, protect your dignity and let life test how badly you actually want to become the person you've always envisioned.
you can lose almost everything and still rebuild.
just make sure you don't lose yourself in the process.
I think the single biggest trick to achieving all of this is waking up for fajr and then immediately starting your day
