I highly recommend The Luminares if you haven’t read it.

During a trip to NZ I finally managed to stay in a place with dark skies - the first time I managed this after many visits to the Southern Hemisphere. It was great to see constellations I have never seen with my own eyes. Made me think about the explorers and navigators like Corsali, de Houtman and Keyser who mapped the Southern skies.
Thanks @GraemeK73, I had my favourite afternoon treat
A great day to have a birthday! 😉
The wonderful Charles Dance, was born on this day in 1946. I had the immense pleasure of meeting him when he was filming at @UofGlasgow Utterly charming and extremely engaging - one of the most genuine of people.

I’ve never known a more tactical World Cup. Success has come from playing your own game but also from playing your opposition. Spain did it last night and France failed to do it. England did it against Mexico.
Until last night I thought that France-England was the most likely line-up for the WCF. A few thoughts:
1. Last night’s win by Spain 🇪🇸 against France 🇫🇷 again reiterates that this is a Cup tournament. You can be a great side overall but if have one off day it’s over.
2. Spain were really well organised - they completely stifled France’s quick transition through midfield which had been such a feature of France’s success until yesterday.
3. Yes, football may yet be “coming home”. But England 🏴 need to step up big time from the Norway match. And if Argentina are to win tonight their defence needs to improve from what we saw against Switzerland 🇨🇭

I’ve ask the same question for a number of years and no one seems to know (including politicians and academics I’ve asked): why are they polling places in Scotland and polling stations down south?
Amazing that the current record has stood so long.
It's 72 years to the day since Roger Bannister became the first ever person to run a sub-four-minute mile 🏃
He ran 3:59.4 and was paced by Chris Brasher and Chris Chataway at Iffley Road in Oxford.
The mile world record has since been lowered on 18 occasions, with Hicham El Guerrouj holding the current mark of 3:43.13.
Big up to all my family and friends in #Bufallo. Go Sabres!
