Diavolo VS Polnareff + Avdul + Iggy.

I do remember that.
I also remember when the Resident Evil franchise was on the verge of getting plug-pulled and Shinji Mikami was threatened with the loss of his job, and it was Resident Evil 4, starring Leon, that saved both the franchise and Mikami's career (and reputation).
Even more than that, I remember the second time the franchise was on the chopping block.
I remember what a reputational catastrophe Resident Evil 6 was, despite starring both Chris AND Leon.
I remember Revelations 2 failing as an "episodic release."
I remember when Capcom was referring to Resident Evil 7 as a "series reboot" in pre-release marketing. I remember them trying to distance from RE6 so hard that they repeatedly promoted RE7 as having been written by the writer of Spec Ops: The Line (even though Richard Pearsey did not write Spec Ops; Walt Williams did; Pearsey was more-or-less his assistant).
Despite that, I remember sales for RE7 being abysmal on release and plateauing at 3 million for so long that Capcom nearly deemed it a failure.
Again.
And it was Resident Evil 2 Remake, starring Leon and Claire, that saved the franchise.
You want to know why Leon is Capcom's "Golden Boy"? Because he saved their asses not once, but twice.
Not only that, but he alone created a cultural zeitgeist following his reveal in RE9 trailers to such an extent that it broke containment, and former co-workers of mine who had never played a video game in their life were lining up to ask me about him and RE. And now a Resident Evil game is legitimately poised to win Game of the Year for the first time since...
Wait for it...
Resident Evil 4. Starring Leon.
I know that you purists love to pull the age card and peacock around like you know some shit about some shit, but some of us have been around just as long as you have and actually understand that time did not stop when the new millennium hit. Time continues into the future, whether you like it or not.
And insisting that Resident Evil should be defined by what happened in the 90s isn't wisdom. It's petulance.
I still remember when Capcom was on the brink of bankruptcy, and it was the first Resident Evil, starring Chris and Jill, that saved the company. Today, with the Dusk Golem leaks, we see just how much they "appreciate" their two original heroes.
And don't laugh, Leon fans, because the day will come when someone more popular than him appears. You'll see Capcom releasing games where Leon makes stupid decisions or carries incredibly heavy plots—treating him as useless or just forgetting him altogether—just to make the new character stand out or look better than him. When that happens, it will be your turn to defend him.
Now it's us, next it's you.
