Most of you know me through Value Added Resource. What you may not know is that I’ve built VAR alongside a full-time day job. That company is winding down at the end of the year, so I’m deciding what I want to take on next.
Over nearly 20 years in ecommerce, I’ve gone from customer service to running operations for an Amazon business with 1.8 million products, helped take a brick-and-mortar retailer online and turned an underused eBay liquidation account into a $2M+ sales channel.
I launched VAR because I saw a gap in how marketplaces were being covered in the media and decided to build what I thought was missing.
Since then, I’ve handled the site, newsletter, social and pretty much everything else behind VAR myself. My reporting draws on seller reports, policy changes, court filings, earnings disclosures and industry relationships to spot stories, patterns and connections that don’t show up in press releases.
I’m keeping the possibilities fairly open and don’t have a particular title in mind. If any of that makes you think “Liz would be weirdly good for ___,” my DMs are open.

Chinese publication Workplace Bonus reported October 22 that layoffs across $EBAY's China operations may have reached 80%, citing multiple independent sources.
The findings follow earlier Value Added Resource coverage of employee discussions on Blind raising concerns about significant cuts to eBay's China Center of Excellence (CCOE).
An eBay representative told Blue Whale News that China was included in the global restructuring but dismissed the 80% figure as speculation, while denying the company had closed its China R&D center or withdrawn from the Chinese market.
The exact number of employees affected in China remains unclear.

After hitting new all time highs in August, there was another $945M+ in public card and sealed-wax sales tracked in September 2026, excluding the broader offline market. Over the last few years, serious private money went into building infrastructure to support and onboard the next one billion card collectors. And now we are seeing that growth materialize. $GME collectibles revenue will keep increasing as they are perfectly positioned with a five layered Collectibles cake to capture as much market share as possible.
More data that shows we are not in a bubble:
- 2.6M cards graded by PSA in the trailing 30 days, up 14% even through their shutdown of value tiers.
- 3.52M cards graded across major graders in September, up 62% YoY and 9% from August, excluding Beckett.
- RECORD number of 664,325 Messi “Final Farewell” Topps NOW packs sold.
- News came out that 100M sports cards sold on Whatnot in 2026 so far.
- 10M+ Pokémon cards sold on Whatnot in September, a monthly record for the category.
- Whatnot’s Pokémon orders and buyer base both more than DOUBLED YoY.
- Topps Chrome Football First Day Issue boxes SOLD OUT at $2,500 each.
- Kimi Antonelli rookie autograph sold for $878K on October 18, the second-highest public F1 card sale ever.
- GameStop’s Q2 collectibles sales grew 57% YoY to $356.3M, reaching 45.1% of total sales.
- eBay reported sustained trading-card momentum across major sports and TCGs, including basketball strength and accelerating soccer-card demand.

September was the second month of $GME’s third quarter, bringing a recovery in hardware spending and a release calendar that gave retailers more to work with than the overall content numbers suggest.
For anyone new to following my work, these monthly reports cover the broader markets for the products and services GameStop offers. They are not estimates of GameStop’s monthly sales. I use this research alongside company filings and other data to build quarterly projections. I will post my initial projection for GameStop's earnings in 2 weeks after the quarter closes.
Starting with Hardware, spending increased 12% year over year to $362M in September, bringing YTD spending to approximately $2.91B, down 9% from the same period in 2025. PlayStation 5 drove the improvement, with dollar sales increasing 43% and units increasing 22%. The platform led September in both measures and captured its largest share of hardware spending since May 2025.
The recovery was concentrated in PlayStation rather than spread across the market. Total hardware units still declined 3%, with Switch 2 units down 14% and Xbox Series units down 27%. Xbox spending declined just 2%, as higher prices offset much of the drop in consoles sold.
Marvel’s Wolverine (even though it received horrible review) helped give customers a reason to buy into PlayStation during the month. The PS5 exclusive led September’s software chart, while its limited edition yellow DualSense was the best selling accessory in both units and dollars. Accessory spending overall increased 10% to $218M, giving GameStop opportunities to sell more than the game itself when customers came in for the release.
The used console market has become increasingly relevant since September ended. In October, GameStop raised listed prices for pre-owned PS5 Pro systems to $1,399.99, or $1,499.99 for configurations with a disc drive, as new inventory became difficult to find. Instead of offering the discount customers would normally expect from used hardware, those prices moved closer to the elevated listings appearing on secondary marketplaces.
That pricing also gives GameStop more room to compete for trade-ins. Reported offers of $800 to $850, depending on the configuration, could encourage customers to bring consoles into stores rather than sell them privately. If GameStop can acquire and resell that inventory, it has another way to serve customers who cannot find a new system.
There are limits to what we can conclude from the listings. A $1,400 asking price does not tell us how many consoles sold at that price, and the difference between a trade-in offer and the resale price is not profit. We thus do not have enough information to put a number on the increase in GameStop’s used-console volume.
Still, September’s completed hardware sales and October’s pre-owned pricing are worth considering together. PlayStation had already returned to unit growth before the more extreme used prices appeared, giving us evidence of stronger demand alongside the later signs of scarce inventory. How much GameStop benefits will depend on its ability to keep systems in stock at prices customers are willing to pay.

Thanks to $GME and Ryan Cohen, $EBAY has shifted their focus to live commerce big time! They even said recently it is their fastest growing segment after they completely avoided it and let it rot for years while WhatNot ate their lunch. When GameStop first bought eBay stock it was in the $80 range. The stock has moved 50% since then. GameStop is now the largest shareholder of eBay.

The layoff news is not entirely surprising, I noticed some interesting changes in eBay's career's page last month which at the time I noted could signal job cuts were on the way. 🧐
