Yesterday it was Discord profiling your social graph. Today it's Google going through your search history and YouTube watching habits to do the same thing. And they're both calling it "privacy-preserving." ✨ In all fairness, they're not collecting new data. They're using what they've already got and they just want you to know. If Google's model decides you're a teenager: adult apps on Google Play are off-limits, YouTube has opinions about when you should go to bed, and more. And if it gets you wrong? Please hand over your government ID or get your face scanned. Because apparently it takes more of your data to correct a mistake they made with your data. Again, privacy-preserving 🙂

Google is now using Canadians' search and YouTube history to estimate whether they're under 18 Those identified as minors will get bedtime reminders and blocked access to adult apps

Check out @VectorPrivacy, built on Nostr, @jack. - Fully Open-Source Codebase - Fully Open & Transparent Docs (docs.vectorapp.io) - Fully Built in Public since Day 1 with @JSKitteh and of course, No KYC & Censorship-Resistant Not an easy route, but we believe it should be the base standard. Let people have the freedom to choose what best fits their needs and solves their direct problems. Give them full access to see under the hood and high-level customization in terms of UX, yet not forced on the user to have to understand the complexity of the tech. vectorapp.io/blog/hrf-grant/

There is a difference between telling people how something works versus letting them verify for themselves, even if it's beyond your level of understanding, ask your AI for assistance. This is why we open source, it removes the element of blind trust. Trying to shill a privacy product you not only have to pay for, but have to rely on their word on how it works and maintains privacy, then the Swiss authorities? Yeah, nah.

Fun Fact: The anti-surveillance design style for @VectorPrivacy is inspired by real life experiences. Often taking elements of the real, physical world of day-to-day life and carrying the same messaging through a digital medium. It is not always supposed to be identical, but more so focused on the symbolism, visual communication, and underlying themes. The act of wanting privacy and freedom alone seem to be an act of rebellion these days, when truthfully they should be the default. Naive to assume it seems as reality hardly matches expectations, but in a surveillance state, just wanting your personal information to be shared with the direct people you want to share with seems to be asking too much, there are some that feel entitled to that information (insanity, I know). Privacy in 2026 God forbid a man just wants to enjoy his own freedom without negatively imposing on his fellow man. Tsk, tsk... the audacity!
