Today marks fifteen years since Very Own Studio came to life. It’s been a journey! But I’m proud to have dedicated this time to building a practice that reflects my values and love of design. Here’s to the future. Mark. x

The Qatar World Cup logo always reminded me of an ouroboros (the symbol of a snake eating its own tail) rather than the woolen shawl traditional the region that it is based on. But perhaps that perception was coloured by the conversation around the treatment of migrant workers.

The new 2026 World Cup logo is quite a departure from the usual theme.

Focusing on the year rather than the identity of a country is obviously the way around this being a multi host tournament, played in Canada, Mexico, and the US. Imagine a logo that tried to communicate the culture of three distinct places. It could easily get messy/political.

FUN FACT. The small round off-cut pieces of paper created when using a hole-punch are called ‘chad’. The derivation of the word is unknown, it was first recorded in the 1930s. One cheeky suggestion is that ‘chad’ could be an acronym for Card Hole Aggregate Debris.
Tall order? We’re looking for a really good freelance designer, with solid experience in concepts, visual identity and website design for a booking up to Christmas (potentially Jan and Feb too). Remote work is fine. Please email. [email protected] RTs appreciated. X

One of Brighton and Hove’s many urban foxes.

Has @twitter changed the way it handles videos? Recently, every single one is buffering, both on desktop and mobile - with sufficient download speeds. Suspiciously, a two minute clip buffers at exactly 0:30, 1:00 and 1:30 - so could be some sort of pre-load issue, maybe?

Has anyone seen the film DUNC?

Can anyone enlighten us on what’s going on with the letters E and R in this logo?

Just been told it’s probably Cinderella’s slipper - which makes sense - but you have to work hard to see it. It looks like the R is dragging the E round by it’s hair!
Hopefully the new design is more than surface styling. Pringles packaging was previously 84% unrecyclable. Surely that should be the starting point.
