Govt have set themselves the ambitious target to halve VAWG within a decade. Support services will be essential in helping us achieve this, as they provide lifeline services that help victims access justice and support. We cannot risk losing such vital services.
Our CEO, @Ciara__Bergman, along with the leaders of @VictimSupport, @WelshWomensAid, @Imkaan and @womensaid, has written to @Keir_Starmer to raise concerns about the impact of National Insurance increases and funding cuts for police & crime commissioners: rapecrisis.org.uk/news/joint…

Victim services are the backbone of our justice system, but the latest funding settlement risks pushing them to breaking point.
Organisations warn they’ll be forced to cut staff and frontline support. This will harm victims and undermine justice—at a time we can least afford it.

ALT A newspaper article with the headline: "Victim groups ‘being pushed to staff cuts’." Baroness Helen Newlove warns that frozen budgets and rising caseloads are forcing victim support services to do more with less, risking staff cuts. She highlights the lack of funding for critical services, while charities face increased costs. The article notes Baroness Newlove’s advocacy following her husband Garry’s murder in 2007. A photo of her is included with the caption: "DISAPPOINTED."

It strike me that we are asking victims of rape and sexual assault to pay an unreasonably high price for justice.
At the same time, we risk failing to provide them with the crucial support they need to secure that justice.

Funding for core victim services is vital. It helps victims access support to recover but also engage in the justice system to help bring offenders to justice. Cutting this funding will have devastating consequences for both victims and public safety.
The government is planning a 4.2% cut to core victims’ services funding next year. This means many victims may go without vital support. We are calling for this devastating cut to be reversed and for essential support services to be fully funded.

Victim support services are the backbone of our justice system. They help victims recover and stay engaged in the justice process longer, ultimately ensuring offenders are held accountable. Any cuts in funding will be felt directly by victims - when these services are needed most

I welcome @VictimSupport's new report—and their calls for better treatment of victim-survivors navigating the court system. Sadly, these findings align well with what victims tell me.
We owe it to victims to do better.

Well put by @VictimSupport at @BBCr4today's anti-social behaviour debate:
💬 "Bring the victim's voice to the fore and listen."
Anti-social behaviour ruins lives. Victims need support but they face a post-code lottery when trying to access it. This needs to change.
