Crimson Desert is GOTY all day long.
It’s been a while since I first stepped onto this wooden bridge and set eyes on Pywel for the first time, and somehow this spot already hits me with hardcore nostalgia. That first view blew every expectation I had right out of the water.
Between the sheer scale, massive size, and jaw-dropping graphics, this is easily top-tier for an open-world game. Exploring this world was unbelievable, and I haven't had that feeling in a world since playing Shenmue on the Dreamcast or getting lost in Oblivion as a kid. It woke up that inner child in a way no modern release has managed to pull off.
For most of the game, I barely even touched fast travel or called a mount because just walking through this living, breathing world was everything. Listen, I’ve played and loved plenty of other open-world games, but the way Crimson Desert pulled me into its fantasy and lore reignited that "wake up and immediately think about playing" magic I honestly thought was gone forever haha.
Having played pretty much every major release up until now, this holds a special place in my heart already. Undisputed GOTY for me. GTA6 needs to blow my socks off.
Did anyone else refuse to use fast travel in this, or what was the last game that gave you that childhood feeling? 👇

Wife: "What are you playing?"
Me: Quickly turns the surround sound down.
"Nothing, love. Just a horror game." 💀🤣
Some of the scenes in Hellraiser: Revival are absolutely fucking wild. 😂
But seriously… tag a mate who'd willingly take a seat in that chair at the end. 👀💀

I've finished Hellraiser: Revival and I'm currently putting together a proper, in-depth review. Absolutely loved a lot of what this game does, but I've got a few criticisms too.
If you enjoy honest gaming reviews, attention to detail and a bit of brutal horror, feel free to follow along. More coming soon! 🤘
Because launching a bus down a massive hill and watching the physics engine go to work is therapeutic.
Plus, it's just cool getting to experience it all again and seeing how well the console actually copes with it. 🤷♂️

Are we seriously not going to talk about how bloody good BeamNGdrive looks on the PS5 Pro?!
The fact that BeamNG is running on a console at 60 FPS is impressive enough. It's rendering internally at 1440p and upscaling to 4K using PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).
But here's what makes this even more impressive...
THE PHYSICS!
It's running at the full PC-standard 2000Hz physics tick rate, meaning the game's incredibly complex soft-body physics, mechanical components, suspension damping and aerodynamic forces are still being simulated at the same frequency as the PC version!
2,000 physics updates every second on a console!
Considering just how demanding BeamNG's physics simulation is, this is seriously impressive work from the developers.
And the best part? It's only going to get better!
Massive credit to the team. 👏

BeamNGdrive | PS5 Pro vs RTX 5090 - Graphics Comparison.
I've spent some time getting both versions matched as closely as possible to see how they stack up visually.
Same vehicle, location, camera angle, time of day and OLED display.
I also matched the in-game HDR and image settings on both platforms:
• Exposure: 0 EV
• Paper White: 250 nits
• Peak White: 1,000 nits
• Sharpness: 50%
RTX 5090: 4K output, highest available graphics settings with DLSS enabled. Captured using Steam screenshots.
PS5 Pro: Captured through my Elgato capture card.
Now, don't get me wrong, the PS5 Pro looks bloody impressive, especially considering the physics simulation BeamNG is running.
But there are noticeable visual compromises.
The shadows appear rougher on PS5 Pro, and some of the distant buildings and environmental details look more simplified compared with my RTX 5090.
I've also noticed considerably more pop-in during actual gameplay on PS5 Pro, although that's something you won't be able to judge from these still images.
Interestingly, the PS5 Pro appears slightly more vibrant to my eye, even with the HDR settings matched. But more vibrant doesn't automatically mean better or more accurate image quality.
Still, I'm genuinely impressed with how well the console version holds up overall.
Of course, both versions use different rendering and capture pipelines. Matching the settings doesn't guarantee identical HDR processing or colour reproduction.
This is a still-image quality comparison, NOT an FPS or performance benchmark.
I'll post both original screenshots and the settings images in the replies so you can examine the differences for yourselves.
What differences stand out to you?

For the new #PS5 players jumping in BeamNG for the first time: if you want that cinematic, Burnout-style crash cam, just watch this video and copy these settings.
#beamngdrive just launched on PlayStation, and it's absolutely incredible how well it runs and looks. I've been playing BeamNG since the very beginning (over 13 years ago!), so it's wild to see how far it has come.

The environmental detail and lighting here are genuinely impressive. Even the knives and forks on the tables look convincing, and the last outdoor heater looks ridiculously realistic. It's the little things like this I love noticing in games.
It's just a shame the optimisation with full ray tracing enabled is absolute dogshit. All that visual detail comes at a ridiculous performance cost, even on my RTX 5090 running at native 4K. For a company with these resources, I expect better.
I'm still not a fan of supporting this company, but I really fancied a shooter. Credit where it's due, though. They clearly know how to create believable environments.

Right, here it is. My first-ever gaming article and the start of VGD | THE FIND!
Kicking off with SHIFU: Traffic Masters, an upcoming indie that took me back to Driver and Super Runabout. I finished the demo, had a brilliant time, and here's why.
MXGP 26 looks stunning, but the mud steals the show!
The track tears up beneath your tyres, ruts form, and you can actually FEEL the bike react to the changing terrain.
MotorStorm was doing this back on PS3 nearly 20 years ago. About time we saw more of it!
It's not just visual detail. It changes how you ride.
⚠️ Had to disable HDR due to a recording bug, so the footage looks more saturated than the game itself.

You know what I miss from GTA games? It was the sense of reward unlocking the next part of the map, the excitement, and also the excitement trying to figure a way across before you unlocked it haha.
We all spent hours trying to ramp a stolen car over the water or find a boat just to see what was over there. The blocked bridge was the ultimate tease. Because you were stuck, you actually had to learn that first island inside and out, you knew every back alley, every stunt jump, and every spray shop by heart.
When you finally beat the right mission and those barriers lifted, it wasn't just a map update. You earned that new city. Modern games that just hand you the entire sprawling map on minute one have completely lost that magic. #GTA #GTA3 #GTA6 #gtavı
The new Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV Part 1 update introduces one of my favorite Ferraris (the F355!), and fuck me does it sound incredible in VR!

Been spending some time with Valor Mortis.
It's a first-person Soulslike set in a dark, plague-ridden version of Napoleonic Europe, developed by the creators of Ghostrunner.
Here's 5 minutes of pure gameplay, starting with a stealth kill and a few more encounters along the way.
#ValorMortis
The devs proper mugged me off with this one! 💀
Can you tell I shat myself?
I thought I was being the ultimate stealth assassin sneaking up on the guy😭 #ValorMortis @ValorMortis Well played!
Well, that did not go as planned. I had it all worked out in my head! 😂 #ValorMortis
Valor Mortis dropped today! It's a first-person soulslike with some beautiful environment work. Here are some native 4K screenshots.
Anyone playing?
