Shocking neglect and abuse of retired Lt Col Stephen Maguire DCM SAS, a natural born leader of men who spent 40 years in service to his country, and his son's long fight for justice. Please share Ben's post widely: "My father, Retired Lt Col Stephen Maguire DCM SAS, is a man who spent nearly 40 years in dedicated service to this country, serving from 1970 until 2009. He is a natural leader, a decorated soldier, to those who served with him. However, he has been completely abandoned and betrayed by the very system he gave everything to. I am fighting for justice for my father. This struggle is a mirror of my own life; my own journey marked by the negligence of MPs, charities, and veteran services which led me to the absolute rock bottom of homelessness as a veteran myself. I know exactly what it is like to be discarded by the people who promised to provide support. After years of fighting, we finally have a pathway toward the right care, but the damage is already done. The sheer scale of the failings along the way has crippled a man who likely only suffered from PTSD. What should have been a manageable recovery became a total collapse because of institutional incompetence. This isn't a failure of one person or one office it is a systemic rot. For too long, the UK government, regardless of which side of the fence they sit on, has played a political game with the lives of our veterans. Whether it is Labour or the Conservatives, the result is the same: service men are treated as assets when they are useful and as liabilities the moment they are broken. We are told our sacrifices are "remembered," but the reality is that once the uniform comes off, the care vanishes. We sought help for my dad, worried about PTSD and dementia resulting from his service. Through the SAS Association and Veterans’ Aid, he was referred to various healthcare facilities. Instead of professional care, he found negligence from these referrals. In the last few years alone, he has been through multiple institutions that have failed him. We've dealt with incorrect diagnoses, doctors who tried to push him out of their care because he was "too difficult," and the removal of life-saving medication that led to him being sectioned under the Mental Health Act. He was sedated and left to decline without specialist care. His PTSD was completely ignored, and his medical history was dismissed. In one instance, he was admitted to the hospital due to low sodium caused by the excessive use of anti-psychotic medication. The most infuriating part is the silence from the top. MPs have explicitly ignored this situation and failed to act for a Lt Col in 22 SAS. The "Military Covenant" is nothing more than a piece of paper used for photo opportunities while men like my father are left to rot. The system has failed. The NHS has failed. Veteran charities have failed. From the MOD passing the buck to the medical incompetence of the facilities, my father has been abandoned like thousands of others. I am posting this because we need accountability. It is not enough to simply "help" now; there must be justice for the way he was treated. My father spent four decades looking after his men and serving at the highest level for the United Kingdom; it is a national disgrace that the government failed to look after him and many like him. Do not listen to the rhetoric the government continues to push. As this is an example of what happens after 40 years of dedicated service. Please share this. We need the people in power to answer for this. We need leaders who actually lead, not politicians who just talk." facebook.com/story.php?story… bobshepherdauthor.com/2023/1…

We begin to heal and recover when we can talk about our most uncomfortable feelings and work through them. We shouldn't have to deal with everything all by ourselves.

Totally agree its only about 200 years ago that British kids were going up chimneys, working long hours in mills, factories & on the land, the poor & working class were treated badly, harsh working & living conditions were the norm for many, this country was built on their backs!

Yep. We have a monument in our local graveyard, to a mining disaster in the local colliery. Some of the dead were 6 years old working in the mines. Slaves by any other name

Well said June. This is the history of my family. Either mill workers or, in my gt. grandpa's case, chipping away at the coalface in Lancashire. (My family lost 2 of their number - including gt. grandpa, at age 45 - on the same day, in one of the worst mining disasters ever recorded in UK history.

♦️WHITE PRIVILEGE♦️ This is how our cotton mills and wool mills made their profits, which afforded them their fine stone-built mansions on the outskirts of mill towns. It was dangerous work, fingers were often lost, eye injuries common, no comfort breaks, no health insurance and no factory nurse. This work was done on empty bellies after a walk to work. Malnutrition was common place and discipline hard. A water barrel with a wooden ladle for dry dusty days as cotton dander filled the choking air. There were no holidays to look forward to, no sick pay, and kids as young as 7 sent to work in the miserable conditions their parents stomached for a lifetime. They didn't play much, they were too knackered for that. A cold hard bed was all they could hope for. Arthritis and joint pains kicked in early as crippled fingers in their middle years struggled with looms. And our MPs talk about reparations for slavery, when every God damned nation was using slaves. White privilege... you disgust me. There should be a plaque of remembrance dedicated to the entire working class! #DawnButlerMP

No white young British man should fight for this country when the anti white racism schemes, lectures on toxic masculinity etc are still happening You can’t demonise young men one minute and want to send them into the meat grinder to fight for you the next

🇬🇧 I’d go so my children wouldn’t have to 🫡 I watched Alex Armstrong last night saying he couldn’t fight for his country, followed by a pile-on from the older generation on the panel. I can see both sides. The older generation believes we have a duty to defend our country, while the younger generation is asking why they should risk their lives for a government they feel has treated the working class with contempt. As a veteran who has served on three operational tours, I understand the complexities of military service. I didn’t deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan as a soldier, although I worked in Afghanistan as a close protection officer. I would never presume to speak for those who endured countless tours, lost friends or returned with lifelong physical and psychological injuries. I work with veterans, and I know the sacrifices don’t end when the fighting stops. This isn’t necessarily about young people refusing to defend their country. It’s about a generation who feel their country no longer respects them. Many have been criticised simply for displaying patriotism, yet could one day be expected to put on a uniform and make the ultimate sacrifice. That’s a conversation worth having, rather than dismissing their concerns. Would I fight for my country again? Yes. But not for any government. I’d fight for the men and women standing beside me, for my family and for the generations coming after us. And perhaps this is where my answer becomes personal. I’d rather they sent me than my children. I’ve lived my life. I want my children to live theirs, to marry, have children of their own and grow old. If sacrificing my life meant my children, or someone else’s children, could have that future, I’d do it. So I understand Alex, and I understand the older generation on that panel. Patriotism, duty, sacrifice and trust in government are not the same thing. You can love your country while feeling profoundly let down by those governing it. For me, the answer is simple, even if the question isn’t. I’d go so my children wouldn’t have to.

Private Percy Tolliday of the 11th Battalion, The Middlesex Regiment, has been laid to rest on the Somme alongside two unknown comrades, more than a century after their deaths in the First World War. The men were recovered by our colleagues from our specialist Recovery Unit. Dr Daniel Seaton, CWGC Commemorations Case Officer said: “The three casualties now laid to rest were recovered by our specialist Recovery Unit, not far away from where today’s ceremony has taken place. I am delighted that, following research conducted by ourselves and the JCCC, Private Tolliday has been identified, and remain hopeful that it may also be possible to identify the two Unknown Soldiers in the future. All three are now remembered with honour in the Commission’s Warlencourt British Cemetery” Image: Crown Copyright

Labour, this party is now the government, is this ethical🧐 👇👇👇👇 Experian built Labour a database of over 1 million new mums. The data came from Emma's Diary - a pregnancy advice site that sold names, addresses and kids' ages without telling mums it would go to a political party. 😳🤦 ICO fined them £140,000. Labour used it to target mums in marginal seats before the 2017 election. A million women. One fine. Almost no press.
