Researchers @VogelLab mimic nature’s striking colors using colloidal photonic crystals containing polydopamine.
Polydopamine, a synthetic analog of natural melanin, removes scattered light, enhancing light-matter interaction.

Our preprint on "Molecular-Induced Chirality Transfer to Plasmonic Lattice Modes" is online arxiv.org/abs/2301.06761 Instead of using intrinsic chiral lattices (doi.org/10.1002/adma.2020013…) we show that arrays of spherical AuNP reveal the handedness of molecules surrounding them 1/5

ALT TOC image for the manuscript "Molecular-Induced Chirality Transfer to Plasmonic Lattice Modes". It shows Left and Right circularly polarized light illuminating an array of gold nanoparticles surrounded by chiral molecules. The chirality of the molecules gets transferred to the lattice modes of the achiral plasmonic lattice modes, which is why they appear to have sharp CD signals

Don't use chemical dyes for color... just change the size of tiny silica balls.
Different size ➡️ different curvature ➡️ reflecting light at different angles so that we see a rainbow! 🌈
