ALT Screenshot of a Tumblr post by tk-is-here. It reads: i'm absolutely fascinated by the choice to port dual destinies to VR because of the sheer lack of Anything it adds. ace attorney is a visual novel series. there is no testing of reaction times or moving of characters in an environment or even puzzles that require directly interacting with your surroundings. you literally just read and occasionally move the camera view from left to right in investigations, MAYBE rotate a 3d model of evidence. this is perhaps the worst videogame genre possible to adapt to VR outside of mario and sonic type platformers (and i only say that because those things make you sick- i guarantee that if they didn't they'd be far FAR more worthwhile as VR ports than visual novels).

ALT The previous Tumblr post, continued: in the brief teaser we got it looked like the only major change that lends itself well to VR is that you'll be able to physically be present in investigations locations, which is definitely neat, but investigations in ace attorney only take up a portion of gameplay. for the most part, the environments you're in are stagnant and uninteresting (again, it's a visual novel! the interest is in the text!!!). it looks like you'll be able to swap perspectives or move spots in the courtroom, which is cool i guess, but how is that going to stay interesting for the 40 hours these games take? especially when i'm just going to be reading a small dialogue bubble instead of looking around the room 90% of the time? i just. it's nothingburger. it's more nothingburger than in my wildest dreams. it almost loops back around to being a bold new take on the series because of how absurd its existence is. who greenlit this. why. what were they thinking. I Need To Know.
