hah yes all good just a daytrade turned into an "investment" (writedown) - cheers hope you're doing well

is it fair to say then that you're using inference instead of signed positions?
What to expect through tomorrow's FOMC release

surprisingly not
there are a few approaches that have been popularized through the years, and they have varying degrees of efficacy
one of the original approaches termed "naive GEX" just involved assigning market makers a short for every put and a long for every call. Probably worked well enough when option usage was more traditional and aligned strictly with hedging
that was improved upon by attempting trade level analysis to iterate ones way through the cumulative flow that results in a position
but severe problems with that imo, as even if you have perfect results from inference (ie, which side of the trade was the aggressor on) you're still going to wind up with a ton of trades that are customer to customer, firm to firm, dealer to dealer - and have a noisy interpretation of what slice of the open interest is actually held by hedgers.
further improved by local vol surface calibration - trying to smooth and tease out evidence of local kinks in the surface that imply a concentrated long or short- but in my experience as MM we often behaved in ways that would muddy that output
this version just accepts the Cboe's account type designation as the closest to ground truth about what kind of account holds what, since there are in fact economical reasons to hold hedged inventory in market maker accounts, for example.
Instead of doing trade level inference, we just accept what the Cboe assigns as entity-type on each volume bucket from the beginning of a contract's life

they are
though they are a product of my own analysis

(Institutional desks do, in fact, use our approach too)

Can you elaborate on what you mean by misclassification?
nothing is perfect, that's for sure
Replying to @OptionsFlo @Cboe
it was just too easy to say "ROO" than to convert it to anything else, I might be a different version of me now if I endured 10 years of being called DIAPER

great value add here, thanks for showing up

you need tagged flow for the entire life of the series
only way to do it with that approach I think
