Endurance is on a historic run. During our mission to the Axial Seamount, we successfully drilled the world’s first subsea geothermal well and generated net-positive power a mile beneath the Pacific. This mission was the first end-to-end test of subsea geothermal, and our fifth deep-sea deployment in just over a year. For three weeks, we worked around the clock over an active underwater volcano, running the drill and generator and handling every deployment and recovery. Along the way, we: - Landed our drill within feet of target, drilled two holes, and cased and completed the second as a geothermal well, flowing at 260°C. - Landed Adélie, our 3-ton test plant, and ran it in real time from Seattle over subsea fiber. - Drilled with filtered seawater, not drilling mud, and monitored the site on every dive. - Recovered, serviced, and redeployed Adélie in about 16 hours. - And on Sept. 27, connected to a 281°C natural vent, spun the turbine up to 26,000 rpm and ran the plant net positive for 8.7 seconds, peaking at 16.5 kW. Net power is the threshold every new energy source has to cross. For Endurance, it proves subsea geothermal is real, and gives us the confidence to keep sprinting towards commercial scale. With a test like this, success comes from what we learn: a battery protection trip ended the run, a pump cable failed on restart, and the new well was too restrictive to run the plant. Those lessons go straight into Gentoo, our next test plant, this winter and Leopard, our 2 MW commercial generator. We’re incredibly proud of what we accomplished together. It took creativity, precision, an uncompromising focus on safety from everyone on board, and it’s only the beginning of what we’re capable of. We couldn’t have done it without Stabbert Maritime and the crew of the Ocean Guardian, the ROPOS team, the University of Washington, WASSOC, and the National Science Foundation.

Arbor is building zero-emission gas turbines to power data centers and our energy future - and they just cleared a huge milestone The team recently hit full power on their 1 MW direct-fired sCO2 turbocompressor - 60,000+ RPM and 2+ hours of run time I did my PhD in thermal fluids, and this is a hard one. Plenty of folks have drawn this system on a whiteboard, but Brad, Andres, and the cracked Arbor team pulled a world first and spun it up. Oxy-combustion, sCO2 bearings, compressor mapping and 3D printed rotors all had to work together, at speed This team is the real deal. They’ve pulled through every time where others have failed - it’s why we’re all in at @VoyagerVC Next up: the full 1 MW ATLAS pilot, then the 25 MW HALCYON unit, built for mass production. Proud to have backed them since the seed and to be on the journey with our friends @cantos @lowercarbon @gigascale and more

The anode is one of the most supply-constrained parts of a battery cell, and in a lithium battery its materials come almost entirely from China. Mana Battery, Inc. builds a cell without one. Its batteries run on sodium instead of lithium, drawn from earth-abundant and non-FEOC materials. The design cuts materials cost by 40% against the cheapest lithium-ion cells on the market, while matching or beating their energy density. The cells are drop-in, built on existing lithium-ion lines. In under three years the team has put prototypes in the hands of tier-one battery makers, defense contractors, and the U.S. Army. We’re proud to back @tylerjevans_1 and his team, leading Mana’s seed round alongside @usv and @buffgoldventure. Full @WSJ story here: wsj.com/pro/venture-capital/…

The chemistry to turn CO2 and water into jet fuel has existed for a century. What's never existed is the technology to do it at a price that works -- until Lydian. PIVOT integrates reactor technology, catalysts, process design, and software into one platform that converts clean electricity, water, and CO2 into drop-in jet fuel. It's engineered to follow cheap, intermittent renewable power instead of fighting it: 50%+ lower capital costs, up to 95% lower lifecycle emissions, and a path to cost-competitive jet fuel this decade. We're proud to continue backing @jorodden and the Lydian team in their Series A.

In 2021, Voyager's first investment was in a metals company: Atlas Materials, producing nickel, cobalt, and magnesium metal through a zero-waste process. Five years on, our conviction in this space is only growing. The way metals are made hasn't fundamentally changed in thousands of years: melt rock with fire, sort the results. What's coming is different - AI-designed alloys, electrochemistry, precision energy. Metals engineered atom by atom. Read our metals thesis here: voyagervc.com/news-and-lette…

Let's go @FoundationAlloy 🚀
I'm absolutely thrilled that we're leading @FoundationAlloy's Series A! As a materials scientist, I'll admit I'm a little biased, but this is the kind of company that makes you genuinely excited about what's possible in metals. Their technology unlocks solid-state processing without melting which lets them engineer microstructures that are simply inaccessible through conventional melt processing. We're talking unrestricted composition space, atomically controlled grain structures, and better performing materials (e.g. Mo alloys lasting 4x longer than incumbents in customer testing). The integrated platform also enables a 500x faster design-test-analyze loop to bring new alloys to market. This is the future of materials innovation, treating alloy development like software. Congrats to Jake Guglin and the Foundation Alloy team. Excited to join the journey!

Manufacturing alloys now run 900-day lead times. That's because we're still making metal by melting it, which humans have done since the Bronze Age. Engineering alloys are inside everything advanced: jet engines, rockets, energy infrastructure, precision tools. The traditional melt-based process is energy-hungry, slow, and pressed against a performance ceiling it can't push through. Aircraft sit on the ground, manufacturing lines slow down, and supply gaps show up across aerospace, energy, and materials production. @FoundationAlloy skips melting entirely. MetalsFIRST is a solid-state process that produces engineering alloys legacy methods can't make: specialty steels with 80-90% fewer processing steps, and alloys at 3x the strength of standard commercial alternatives. A new 36,000 sqft Massachusetts facility and a modular production cell in New Hampshire put the company on a path from pilot output to tons per week by 2027 -- all made in America. We're excited to lead @FoundationAlloy's $22M Series A and back Jake Guglin's all-star team.

Under the Pacific seafloor sits enough clean, constant power to carry baseload across entire coastal regions. Nobody has figured out how to plug into it. AI infrastructure is being built at over $1.3 billion of CapEx a day, and the US is on track for an 85-gigawatt power shortfall by 2030. Pacific island nations already pay almost 7x what Americans do for electricity, and everything they burn arrives by ship. Offshore geothermal could fill much of that gap: gigawatts of zero-emission baseload, right where the demand is. No new physics required. Drilling, turbines, and subsea hardware all exist in adjacent industries. Endurance Energy is integrating them into a single unit you can lower onto the seafloor, hold at 300°C+ for years, and recover for service. In the past year, the team has completed four prototype deployments at depths up to 3,300 meters and is on track to deploy their first 100kW generator to the Juan de Fuca ridge this fall. That unit will generate power on the seabed and run a co-located compute module -- a complete end-to-end demo, with line of sight to grid power within two years. We're excited to invest in Endurance's $54M Series A.

There's a sliver of space -- 200 to 300 km up -- that's been empty for sixty years. Not because nobody wanted it, but because nothing could survive there. The closer a satellite flies to Earth, the more it can do and the less it costs. The catch is atmospheric drag: strong enough at this altitude to pull satellites back to Earth within weeks, and corrode them on the way down. @NewOrbitSpace is building a satellite that handles both. NEO-1 has its own engine to fight the drag, materials that survive the chemistry, and a design built to stay up for five years. That unlocks high-resolution images from space at roughly 20x lower cost, 5G straight to a phone without rooftop antennas, and live HD video from orbit -- things that simply aren't possible from where satellites fly today. We're proud to lead NewOrbit's $18.5M Series A and back the UK-based team.
