Stop banning, start building.
Move students from AI passengers to system architects with 3 strategies for Applied Intelligence:
1️⃣ Build bots, don't just use them.
2️⃣ Use AI for patterns; humans for "Why."
3️⃣ Focus on empathy-led problem solving.

If AI can summarize, draft, and explain content instantly, what should learning require now?
As AI reshapes how information is created and shared, educators are rethinking what it truly means to learn. This article explores how AI is redefining literacy, not just as a technical skill, but as something interpretive, ethical, and strategic, and what that means for critical thinking and designing meaningful learning experiences.

Congratulations GSMS WaverMakers Christy Mims & Larry Shoemaker
PTI/Interventionists
We are WaveMakers because...
Our two part-time instructors/interventionists, Coach Larry Shoemaker and Mrs. Christy Mims, exemplify what it means to be Wave Makers at Gulf Shores Middle School. They are consistently flexible in day-to-day planning to meet the evolving needs of our school and students and never hesitate to step in wherever support is needed.
They go beyond their assigned roles by checking in on students’ academic, emotional, and social well-being and by providing support to any student who needs it. Whether covering break duties, assisting with state and benchmark testing, or saying “yes” to whatever the day brings, they demonstrate an unwavering commitment to excellence and service.
Their dedication, positivity, and willingness to go the extra mile make a lasting impact on our school community and instill pride in our school. Thank you, Coach Shoemaker and Mrs. Mims!

🌿Gulf State Park is happy to report another successful year of partnering with Dune Doctors and Gulf Shores City schools for our Planting for Protection Initiative. Students came out and placed 387 Christmas trees along the base of the dune and planted 3,000 dune plants to help grow and restore our dunes! We are grateful for our local students who want to make a difference in the environment!

“It’s important that you choose the right words when coaching players. So many times they read how great they are, how great people think they are and that’s not it. They have to earn everything they get to display on the field on a daily basis,” Mario Cristobal

Gulf Shores City Schools celebrated nine new National Board Certified Teachers today, and we couldn’t be more proud! 🎉🍎
Congratulations to our newest NBCTs:
GSHS: Wendy Jones, Tera Cagle
GSMS: Roger Reetz, Martha Morales
GSES: Lindsay Grant, Lindsay Scogin, Megan Rogers, Mary Margaret Phillips, Sara Shaw
National Board Certification is one of the most rigorous professional learning journeys an educator can pursue, and research shows students taught by NBCTs achieve more and are more engaged. Our NBCTs also strengthen our schools through leadership, mentorship, and service.
A huge thank-you to the Dolphin Foundation for supporting our candidates every step of the way. 💙🐬
Help us congratulate our newest NBCTs! 👏
We’re so excited to introduce Phin, our school’s comfort dog! Since she’s been here, she’s brought so much joy and happiness to our students and staff. I’m so grateful to be her human and to have such amazing community partners who made this happen.
