“Justice and peace are interwoven.” 🕊️
Our Secretary-General Dr Amrita Kapur is at the Geneva Peace Forum, at a poignant moment following the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay.
Speaking this morning on a panel about structural barriers and Geneva as a safe space for arms and peace processes, Dr Amrita Kapur highlighted how intersecting structural barriers continue to shape not only institutions, but also their agendas, their content, and how decisions get made.
Breaking silos matters, but it isn’t enough. Addressing today’s polycrisis requires a specific, intentional strategy for an integrated approach. It also requires confronting the deliberate efforts to dismantle the fundamental pillars of multilateralism.

More than a century of women choosing peace, on the big screen in Geneva.
Imagine Peace by Fabian Chiquet tells the story of Edith Ballantyne, who fled the Nazis in 1938 and went on to become a leading voice in the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. From the halls of the United Nations to the streets of the global disarmament movement, Edith and generations of activists worked to keep dialogue and peace at the heart of international politics.

29 August marks the International Day against Nuclear Tests.
Since 1945: 2,000+ nuclear explosions.
In 2025: $118.8 billion spent on these weapons while climate finance falls $2T short every year.
This is a crisis of priorities.

Nuclear weapons were never designed to keep us safe — ask the survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
81 years on, their voices are still the clearest testimony to what these weapons truly do.
Militarisation doesn't protect us. Instead, it destroy lives and leaves consequences that last generations. Yet, governments keep choosing weapons over people.
It's time to change that.

Every year, trillions are poured into weapons, while the resources needed to guarantee healthcare, education, climate justice and human rights for all remain "unaffordable."
We stand with generations of pacifist feminists who have long rejected violence and war as solutions to conflict.
Swipe to see what our governments should be prioritising instead in order to achieve peace.
It's time to #MoveTheMoney from war to peace, justice and human rights.

What if the biggest obstacle to climate justice isn't a lack of money but where we choose to spend it?
While governments claim there's no funding for a just transition away from fossil fuels, global military spending has reached record highs.
In a new WILPF article, we explore 8 powerful reasons why the world cannot afford to keep choosing bombs over a liveable planet, and why reducing military spending could help finance the peaceful, just future we all need.
🌍 If you believe real security means clean air, thriving communities, and a liveable future, NOT endless militarisation, join our movement.

The annual High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is underway July 7-16 in New York, where progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be reviewed.
WILPF is engaged in the conference with our coalition, the Women's Major Group. Ahead of the HLPF we have collectively drafted a position paper with feminist analysis on all #SDGs, including the SDGs under review (SDG 6 on water and sanitation, SDG 7 on energy, SDG 9 on industry and infrastructure, SDG 11 on sustainable cities, and SDG 17 on the means of implementation).
👉 The paper calls for bold political action that addresses the structural causes of injustice rather than their symptoms.
👉 The paper also includes a strong call against #militarism as a barrier to sustainable development: "The world is deeply at odds with the promises of Agenda 2030. With less than five years to meet Agenda 2030, any progress is being actively dismantled—by militarism, corporate capture, political authoritarianism, and the rapid rolling back of hard-won rights. Globally, only 35% of SDG targets are on track, nearly half are moving too slowly, and almost 18% are regressing….[but] there is no shortage of resources, only skewed political choices: in 2025 alone, billionaires added US$2.2 trillion to their collective wealth, and global military spending hit a record US$2.88 trillion.”

This week, WILPF’s Environment Advisor Katrin Geyer is at London Climate Action Week, a platform for global and local climate action, representing WILPF’s vision of ecological justice and feminist peace. This event brings together people and movements, turning climate urgency into real solutions.
WILPF has long made the case that the climate crisis and militarism are deeply connected. War destroys communities and ecosystems, while ever-growing military budgets drain funding from climate solutions. There is no credible path to a livable planet if governments continue to invest more in war than in a just transition.
This Wednesday 24 June, Katrin will speak on the panel “The Santa Marta Coalition of the Willing”, an event hosted by the largest climate media platform We Don’t Have Time. Katrin’s participation will mostly be centered on The Double Dividend, a report published in collaboration with the Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative, arguing that reducing military spending is one of the most powerful levers to finance a global just transition away from fossil fuels.
This panel will be recorded and rendered available on the 25th of June.
We count on you to join us in the movement of building a livable planet.

Our June story reminds us of what a feminist approach looks like in global economic and disarmament discussions.
For this June, WILPF’s story of Feminist Peace highlights the need for continued advocacy for #MovetheMoney from military to peace. What if the billions spent on militarisation went to education, healthcare, and spaces that build cooperation, dialogue and transform conflicts? That’s not utopia, that’s a political choice we can make differently.

At Geneva Peace Forum Meets Vienna (GPF Meets Vienna), WILPF joined OSCE & PEACEWOMEN across the Globe in a roundtable on women’s inclusion in peace processes.
WILPF members Heidi Meinzolt, Rosa Logar & Luisa Dietrich highlighted a key issue: inclusion is still too often symbolic, while power remains unchanged.
