#broaderimpacts. Great afternoon working with UNCW MarineQuest high school students on antibiotic discovery from coral microbiomes @UNCWilmington @UNCW_CMS. Part of our most excellent collaboration with Blake Ushijima’s group @VibrioSoup .
Sometimes science looks glamorous - like heading out for field work in the Florida Keys - but most of the time it’s long days in lab and a few nights on an air mattress collecting data points. Hats off to our awesome team of students and postdoc! #NSF #oceanscience @UNCW_CMS

It was a quick trip to Boca Raton but SO fun to catch up with my longtime friend Lyndon West, soak up some perfect weather. and share some of our research highlights with his department at #FAU 😀
every year our department @UNCWilmington does a “sidewalk chemistry“ event where we blow stuff up, and other cool chemistry experiments. This year our lab added cocktail ( mocktail) chemistry and it was a hit !

We did an alumni outreach event last night called “cocktail chemistry” and i’m super happy with how our jello-shot petri dishes turned out. expertly inoculated with sprinkles by Julia and Shannon and kudos to my grad students Emma and Sarah for their help!
If you’re interested in a fully-funded 2-year postdoc, living at the beach and working on antibiotic discovery from coral associated bacteria, consider applying for this with @VibrioSoup and me. DM me or Blake if interested!
A great opportunity! If you are interested in marine microbes (coral-associated or otherwise) and natural products chemistry for your postdoc then @WS_DISCOveryNP and I would be interested in chatting!

New paper out! !!
We work with antibiotic-producing Pseudoalteromonas spp. with @WS_DISCOveryNP, so we re-examined the taxonomy of this species to clean it up a bit. Thanks to Patrick Videau, Richard Hahnke, and @jimmysaw labs & collaborators!
