This play does not indicate that Jalen Duren is a bad defender. Every great rim protector has been dunked on before. A great rim protector should always attempt to block shots that nobody else would even try to defend against. He did not place 11th in DPOY voting for no reason.

As lackluster as Duren’s postseason was, Thompson’s was even worse. He averaged less points and rebounds than Duren on worse efficiency. Duren is a great rim protector (11th in DPOY) and offers a much more impactful skillset than a wing defender who cannot contribute on offense.
