“Wally” Seaver HS Invitational

Paul Seaver misses his father every day. The @WallyHSInvALS is a way to honor him, support ALS research and inspire young players. “My biggest goal, when he passed away, was just to keep his name alive and keep his legacy alive.” He’s doing exactly that. FOXBOROUGH — With dozens of games, hundreds of players, and thousands of dollars to monitor, Paul Seaver doesn’t have much time to pause and truly soak in the scene at the Wally Seaver High School Invitational. When he does take a moment to reflect — on a sunny Sunday afternoon in late July, outside the Mass Premier Courts in Foxborough — Seaver is immensely proud of how far the event has come in its 15th year. Not because of the work he has done personally, but because of the work the basketball community has done together to honor his father Wally, who died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis at age 53 in 2013: bostonglobe.com/2026/07/26/s… @GlobeSchools @WallyHSInvALS

Paul Seaver on his father, Wally: "He’s always been inspiring to me, and I couldn’t have asked for a better father." "My biggest goal, when he passed away, was just to keep his name alive and keep his legacy alive." "I always believe he’s here and watching down, making sure everyone is playing hard and playing the right way." @GlobeSchools @WallyHSInvALS @CoachSeaver

Debbie Seaver: "You’re going to bring tears to my eyes. I’m just extremely proud that my son has carried on the legacy of my husband. The tournament, when he first gave it to his dad on Father’s Day in 2012, had 16 teams. To see it at the level that it is at right now is just remarkable. I couldn’t be more proud of the way he’s handled this tournament. It’s a lot of hard work, a lot of effort on his part, but he does it every day because that’s how much he loved his dad." "He’s followed in his dad’s footsteps as a basketball coach. He was always by my husband’s side when he coached high school basketball. The bond that they had just made it that much harder when we lost my husband to ALS. There’s really not much more I could say on that part. He misses his dad, as we do, every single day. Seeing this tournament, the way it has grown over the years and the positivity and reaction from parents and players, it just makes it so worthwhile and a great legacy to my husband." @GlobeSchools @WallyHSInvALS @CoachSeaver
