We need more frontline employees in government - nurses, teachers, doctors , policemen , social workers.
What has been happening is through patronage they overbloat management positions in higher levels of government . Just look how many ministries we have & most have 2 deputy ministers plus their security detail … madness
And another thing is, we need to pay state employees properly or we will have no chance when it comes to fighting corruption. So paying the newbies less or dropping benefits is not a wise solution
There’s no damn bloating within the departments. Some could argue this within the Transnet’s and Eskom’s of the world but departments have a shortage, a huge one.
They are budgeting just shy of R10b* to give thousands of employees VSP’s. NT says they’re targeting older, long-serving senior public servants in order to primary objective is to free up room to appoint approximately younger, more cost-effective frontline staff where shortages exist.
MP’s will be approving this in a few weeks. In a meeting today, SOME MP’s were talking about how, once these VSP’s are done, Gov should NOT replace the staff “and just keep the bloated headcount.”
We’re in the soup. 💀
*I stand corrected on the actual number.
And because we dont train, we will have vacancies…And guess who fills in the gaps ?
Belgium is stepping up efforts to recruit skilled South African workers, offering salaries of up to R90,000 a month, relocation assistance and as many as 42 days away from work annually, including public holidays.

Can change, but right now the options in that market are limited. That says to me that there is still ability to purchase, but we operate much tighter than other regions, leaving less on the table to gain from.

A market that has definitely reduced the margin for gain to people who want to fix up run down places and make some money. May change again with market swings, but for the last 10 years or so, the value consideration has been kept down. 1/2
