Replying to @obsdmd
@obsdmd definitely is the one app I couldn't live without. I use it to think, plan, explore and learn. Right now I am experimenting with "Obsidian Depot", a small plugin (inspired by Obsidian S3 Uploader) that aims to allow uploading+reading from private S3 compatible buckets.
Hey @kepano! I'm building a plugin that stores private attachments in S3 and references them in notes as myprofile://path/photo.jpg. Reading View and Live Preview work, but Bases/Canvas card covers stay empty, so I'm patching them through the DOM for now. Is there a better way to do this, or is it something you'd consider supporting?

Before you clip anything with the Obsidian Web Clipper, ask yourself a simple question: What's the big idea I want to keep? If you have an answer to that question, go ahead and clip it, but write the big idea in your own words. If you can't do that, though, don't clip it!

This is Pele, my new rendering library for diagrams and charts, compatible with the latest Mermaid syntax. - 100-500× faster than mermaid.js - 6× smaller bundle - No dependencies - Easy to theme - Responsive to device width In pursuit of making Obsidian insanely fast and cohesively designed, I always found the Mermaid library to be too big, too slow, and too hard to theme. Pele will be the new renderer in the next version of Obsidian, but you can start using it now. Pele [ˈpɛlɛ] is named after the goddess of volcanoes and fire. It's open source under the MIT license. Try the playground!

Obsidian 1.13.6 is now available to all for desktop and mobile. Highlights - Mobile: Added swipe-to-close to close tabs in the tab switcher. - Improved "Undo close tab" behavior. Tabs now reopen in the correct tab group, and if the currently active tab is the "New tab" page, it will no longer be reused. - The settings window now closes when pressing `Escape`, and more improvements to keyboard navigation. - When Obsidian is fullscreen, the settings window now opens on top of the app window instead of creating an additional fullscreen window. - Range sliders in settings now use the accent color. - The installer has been updated to use Electron 43.3.0. To upgrade, visit the download page and reinstall Obsidian. Bug fixes - The app now waits for configuration files to finish saving when quitting to avoid the file getting corrupted. - iOS: Fixed editor sometimes selecting entire paragraph after double-tapping on text or dragging cursor. - Fixed a few issues with link suggestions in the property editor. For example, typing `#` in a link would cause the link to get overridden. - Fixed dragging links out of an embedded Base (e.g. `![[file.base]]`) linking to the Base file and not the file you're dragging. - Live Preview: Fixed memory leak caused by reordering rows or columns in a Markdown table. - Live Preview: Restored old behavior of embedded YouTube and Twitter links; they no longer have a selection state or an overlayed edit button. - Fixed zoom level getting reset after reloading the window and vaults on network drives not working with the latest installer.

Good news, everyone! We made it easy and free to convert your entire Airtable workspace to durable Markdown files that you own and can use offline. Obsidian Bases supports all your views, filters, and formulas. Your data is yours, take ownership of it.

Asking "what have note-taking apps accomplished?" is like asking "what have spreadsheets accomplished?" or "what have cameras accomplished?". A tool doesn't accomplish anything on its own. A tool is a means to an end. A few days ago, someone jokingly asked if Henry Ford had a personal knowledge base in Obsidian. Well, sort of! He had something he called "jot books", where he journaled, kept notes, grocery lists, etc... Not dissimilar to how people use Obsidian. The Henry Ford Museum has fifty of these notebooks. How should we quantify the impact of Henry Ford's notebooks? How should we quantify the impact of spreadsheets? Most people who accomplish anything take notes in some form, because writing is a way of thinking. We love to mythologize the tools and methods of accomplished people because we hope it will let us absorb a bit of their genius. But a good camera doesn't make a good photographer. Taking lots of photos helps. Should you take notes? Probably. Does it matter what your method is? Probably not. Whatever works for you. Obsidian (or any other form of notetaking) is successful if it disappears and lets you accomplish your work.

Canceled Evernote. They DOUBLED their prices. 3 clicks with Claude and full export to Apple Notes. People are getting SaaS wrong. It's not that Software is dying, it's that subscriptions or charging for things have to be worth it.

How I take podcast notes with @obsdmd + @claudeai. Old way: Watch it all, save a few timestamps, forget most. New way: Only watch what's intriguing — and remember it. Here are the 5 steps to go from passive listener to writing with ready-made arguments: 🧵

You need to stick with it. It’s a philosophy of an app. It is about markdown and capabilities. I agree that the learning curve can be higher, but if you stick with it, it’ll pay off.
Can anyone recommend a dead simple, easy to use notetaking app based on markdown files? Obsidian is far too complicated for me. I'm looking for Apple Notes, but with markdown storage

Great idea for Obsidian
since i use obsidian pretty much for anything, including todos and collecting links, i needed a quick way to append any text to existing notes. so, meet markie. i'm too lazy to make a proper intro video, so here's a screen recording with a groovy jazz beat.
