The person I was replying to in my screenshot was *literally* getting mad at me because they didn’t like the “story direction” I was taking for a character, and were demanding I make that character enter into a relationship with a different one.

Obviously you’re allowed to criticize, and I should probably be better at holding my tongue in the face of it. But I’m really not sure why this throwaway comment I made about my personal webcomic in its community discord has become such a giant talking point.

When you have an audience as large as mine, “fans” are an amorphous blob of people with wildly contradictory opinions, a lot of which are unhelpful. (You guys argue with each other all the time! Who am I meant to listen to even?)
My point was “listening to the fans” is a futile exercise. Whatever changes you make will inevitably piss off a different set of fans. I have coworkers and friends whose judgement I trust and listen to.
