Winter holiday plans are now being made, and for many families that means the ski season in the Alps. Unfamiliar properties, new routes, mountain weather and added complexities: protection for family travel is best planned before departure.

Thanks to @DRM.

For a Head of State's visit to London for Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral, a Westminster Security detail worked alongside the Metropolitan Police's Royalty and Specialist Protection. Every security chauffeur holds the SIA close protection licence.

Routinely misunderstood: private security in the UK cannot carry firearms. That is law, not licensing or budget.
No budget closes that gap, and the courts ruled in 2023 that police protection cannot be bought either.

A visit is a finite window with a known end date.
A home is a fixed address, daily school runs, a routine that can be observed and predicted.
Six years of RAVEC decisions were built around visits. That framing no longer applies.

The Sussexes have moved to the UK. On arrival, no police protection officers were present.
Westminster Security MD told The Times what the private alternative costs: £3m a year minimum, up to £5m.
Why residency changes the problem: go.westminstersecurity.co.uk…
In British law, a canister of pepper spray is a firearm. Section 5(1)(b), Firearms Act 1968. Up to ten years for carrying one.
A close protection operative here works with training, planning and judgement - and nothing else!

Accreditation for a major final closes weeks before kick-off. Without it, an operative waits in the concourse while the principal goes through. Security at that scale is built for the event, not the individual.

Westminster Security is proud to announce we’ve been awarded Employer Recognition Scheme Gold - the highest employer tier of the Armed Forces Covenant, recognising our support for Reservists, Veterans and Armed Forces families. With thanks to @DRM_UK. go.westminstersecurity.co.uk…
Recently, someone offered to sell us five-star reviews. We declined.
A fake review had already appeared on our Google profile from someone who had never been a client. We reported it. Google has removed it.
We mention it for one reason. The reviews on our profile come from genuine, satisfied clients. We would rather hold a few we have earned than a wall of unearned stars.
Reviews reward reading, not just counting. What a review describes - close protection, residential security, a sustained brief - tells you more than the star rating. We are content to be judged on our work.

Reporting last week: close protection officers were deployed before their vetting was signed off. Clearance is not paperwork. It is the precondition for the role. An officer with sustained access to a principal is trusted before deployment, or not at all.

The Duke of Sussex has been refused police protection for an announced UK visit. State protection is discretionary and cannot be bought - even at the highest profile.
What that means for anyone outside the state cohort: go.westminstersecurity.co.uk…

Happy Armed Forces Day, the close of Armed Forces Week. The national event is held in Aldershot and Farnborough. Westminster Security was built by people who served. Today, the country shows its appreciation. We are proud to add ours.

Today is Reserves Day. Reservists give up their own time to serve. They train, they deploy, and they return to civilian jobs. They hold two commitments at once and meet both.
Westminster Security was built by people who served, and we were the first close protection company in the UK to sign the Armed Forces Covenant - and the first security company in London to do so.
Today, we recognise the reservists in our team and across the country.
Service is not a footnote. It is a foundation.
