Padilla is an anti-housing politician who bragged to me about getting an affordable housing project reduced from 6 stories to 3 stories. She also said that broken street lights allow her constituents to better see the stars. And worth saying: no one has been more vindictive and petty ever since Nithya had the audacity to challenge Bass for mayor, and by extension, all the council members who decided to eat shit and pretend Bass is doing a bang up job. Which explains why this "endorsement" is so warmed over. Oh the mayor is reachable by phone? Awesome. The city is falling apart.
Take it from Councilwoman Imelda Padilla, Los Angeles needs a mayor who is willing to work with every City Councilmember to deliver lasting results for Angelenos. I’m committed to working together with our city leaders and constituents to keep moving Los Angeles forward and ensure our city is ready for the 2028 Olympics! Make your plan to vote now and get your ballot in on or before Election Day on November 3rd!

LA is basically run by a "good old chuds" network. Incumbent officials who have run the city into the ground playing petty-tyrant machine politics are furious that Nithya might actually follow laws and professionalize operation of the city. politico.com/news/2026/10/20…

Bill’s book taught me so much about LA when I was first getting into local politics. Was honored to have him on the pod to talk about the mayor’s race, the growth wars of the 80s and 90s, and whether LA can turn the growth machine back on again.
30 years ago, the "The Reluctant Metropolis" was released. We spoke with author Bill Fulton (@BillFultonVta) on the LA Mayor's Race, housing, and more on our latest episode of "In Search of a City: The LA Housing Podcast"! Listen: youtube.com/watch?v=PmSBnz_G…

“Now we have a legislature that is trying to force us to build high density housing in our single family neighborhoods. That is wrong…We should decide what and when to build and not have it forced on us by Sacramento.” Lost my vote. We don’t need another NIMBY in this office.
Angelenos shouldn’t have to leave the city they call home just to afford a home. We need more housing, and we need residents to have a voice in where and how it’s built. That means thoughtful planning, addressing affordability, and listening to the neighborhoods these decisions affect. Building LA’s future starts with listening to the people who live here.

LA is HOT. But does it have to be this hot? Did you know shade from a single tree can drop temps by 20° or more? Yet working-class neighborhoods like South LA, East LA, and the Valley get the least tree coverage and bear the brunt of extreme heat. Let's change that and finally cool things down for everyone.

LA County has at least 56 million square feet of empty offices. Many can actually be converted into homes. Here are the keys, as explained by veteran reuse architect Karin Liljegren on our latest "In Search of a City: The LA Housing Podcast." 🧵

The City of LA owns billions of dollars of real estate. Some of it sits vacant, but most is just underutilized: one-story maintenance yards, parking lots, low-slung facilities. We should be following New York’s lead and start putting our land to work.
An absolutely massive move on housing: @NYCHousing is demolishing its offices at 100 Gold St., an outdated building from the 1960s, and turning it into *4,000* units of housing. 1,000 units will be permanently affordable. This is more new housing than some entire cities build in a year. Project will also include a new senior center, a 40k sq ft gym open to the public, and lots of public realm improvements around the site. HPD will get a new home in a separate, modern building. This is the kind of big, bold project we need much more of.

“Local zoning regulations should be altered to make it easier to build more housing” is *+32* among Democrats. Someone should tell local Democrats!
Replying to @StratPolitics
A majority of Democrats want to pack the Supreme Court and abolish the filibuster, but getting rid of the Senate altogether is highly disfavored (however, 34% of Dems under 45 support it).

In LA County, there are licensed child care slots for only 4% of children under 2. That is a crisis, and one that UCLA will make worse by eliminating 220 more slots for our kids. UCLA should keep these centers open, and California should guarantee child care for every family.

Of the many problems facing SRO Housing, Skid Row's largest homeless housing provider, one is familiar to many developers — market-rate and affordable — in LA. Its CEO told me that the opening of new building was delayed because the city-run utility didn't connect electricity.

Great stuff from @CD5LosAngeles. Streamlining condo map approvals makes all the sense in the world. For sale multi family projects should not require more process and impact fees than rentals.
We are living in an economy where people who already own assets keep building wealth while working and middle-class families fall further behind. In Los Angeles, one reason is simple: we have made the first rung of homeownership (condos/townhomes) incredibly hard to build.

LA has the highest rate of overcrowding, the lowest homeownership rate, and the most unsheltered homelessness of any major city in the US. What is *doesn't* have is a regular show devoted to the issue of solving its extreme housing shortage -- until now!
Excited to announce "In Search of a City: The LA Housing Podcast"! Every 2 weeks, we cover the fight to end LA's housing shortage with news, guests, and your comments! Hosted by @JesseZwick, @Leslie_Ridings, @_jonnyshotit_ and Io Sunwoo. Watch: youtube.com/watch?v=kcatihc_…
