Whipper

Asa Montgomery: Duke gets another one. The Duke Blue Devils received a commitment from Asa Montgomery, a talented wing who has shot up the rankings since the shoe camps closed. Montgomery checks many boxes with his length, athleticism, and ability to guard multiple positions. He has shown an understanding of the game as his ranking has soared, and Jon Scheyer took notice The newest Blue Devil offense took off during Nike EYBL play. He is also involved with USA Basketball, where making the team was one of his goals. He went off against Cameroon and showed off his scoring prowess. Many feel Montgomery can master a role early in his career while waiting his turn to show off a constantly improving and well-rounded game. Montgomery will not turn 18 until the summer after his senior season, so he is a perfect fit for the Blue Devils ' two-year development plan. Duke will now turn its attention to Colton Hiller, a highly sought-after baller who may reclassify from 2028 to 2027. For that to happen, his team is doing research, but it is believed he wants to commit fairly early to a school so then he can concentrate on his season. Once guys are in the fold, the Duke staff keeps a constant tab on their development. They will offer committed players tips on what needs work in their game. Make no mistake, Duke is all in on Hiller. If they get him in the fold, it would almost finish off the class. The staff would then concentrate on future classes, including Draydne McDaniel, whom they visited while in Miami, where Duke head coach Jon Scheyer and GM Rachel Baker saw Duke alums Cooper Flagg, Kyrie Irving, and Dereck Lively. Montgomery will join Kager Knueppel and Luke Paul in the class. Duke is expected to return some players, and they haven't even thought about the portal for now. Duke has added a player in Montgomery who could keep blowing up. With his offense coming around this past summer, Montgomery will be much more than filling a role in Durham. The Blue Devils are getting players who know that practices in Durham will improve their stock. The two-year plan allows system integration as guys get well-drilled in a way that the NBA likes. Montgomery brings a lot to the table, and Jon Scheyer saw in him what he wants rostered a season from now.
