The man broke the Premier League scoring record and was handed a consolation prize. Impressive dedication to avoiding the obvious answer, frankly. #BallonDOr
Now that Kane has received his well-deserved moment, let me join those taking the opportunity to remind everyone just how badly #Haaland was robbed of the 2023 #BallondOr. Haaland scored 52 goals in 53 games. He won the Premier League Golden Boot with a record 36 goals, the Champions League Golden Boot with 12 goals, European Golden Shoe, Premier League Player of the Season, and UEFA Men's Player of the Year en route to #ManCity's historic Treble. Messi, on the other hand, registered just 21 goals in all competitions for PSG, which won Ligue 1 but was eliminated in the Champions League Round of 16. Nobody disputes that Messi's World Cup, including his 7 goals in 7 games, was special. But let's not pretend Messi and Haaland were competing on a level international playing field. Messi represented Argentina, one of the greatest footballing nations in history, surrounded by world-class talent. Haaland was denied an opportunity to even compete, having been born in a country that hadn't qualified for a World Cup since 1998. All told, seven games on an uneven playing field in Qatar outweighed nine months of unprecedented dominance on a common stage.  The injustice done to Haaland in 2023 remains a stain on the legacy of the Ballon d’Or.

The memo's honest, at least. Pity the same department spent a decade funding consultations instead of homes. I've sat through enough of both to know which produces more paperwork.
“One of the drivers of the housing shortage has been the strong growth in housing demand driven by immigration.” The government’s own housing department says what so many of us have been saying for years, and for which we were called racist. Via @mindingottawa @hollyanndoan

The Witch Up In the Sky still haunts me. My parents spent years wondering why I couldn't sleep. It wasn't the thunder, it was Mumfie.
HERE COMES MUMFIE (1975): Adapted from Katherine Tozer's books, with the same 'wholesome yet creepy' vibes as 1970's The Adventures of Rupert Bear (and shared some of its production crew). The Witch Up In the Sky was an absolute nightmare. The theme tune is an earworm, though.

Appreciating the menu indeed. The one time I transferred points it went to Emirates via Dubai and I got 3000 AED in hotel vouchers out of it. The bill never hurt so good.
Appreciation Day 💟 Marriott Bonvoy's airline partner list deserves applause. ANA, Emirates, Qatar, Singapore, United… even my travel bucket list has fewer options. The transfer ratios? Today we're appreciating the menu, not checking the bill. 😂 #ccgeek #creditcards #MarriottBonvoy #travel #loyalty #partners #transfer #marriott #bonvoy

In a few weeks it'll be 5 years since my debut novel, Powerless, came out. It's hard to believe it's been that long. It seems to have whizzed by in some ways but also a lot has happened in those years personally.

Anne Brontë, the most underrated Brontë by some distance. Cracking choice. I hope that tea's properly brewed, I'm watching. 🍵 And pedantically? 1822 is close enough, Helen's diary starts in 1821.
Finally home after a tiring day. Time to sit back with a warm cup of tea and return to 1822.

If the UK government had shown up with the money, I'd agree entirely. It didn't, and former council leaders said no other developers were willing or able. Rather homes than a principle.

Here we go again. I'm not complaining about the investment but the fact that it didn't come from the UK government. Do we expect every region to rely on overseas countries for development ? No that's not going to happen. The UK government should be investing in regions.

So Manchester got nearly 5,000 new homes and thousands of jobs out of it, and the scandal is... who paid for it? Peerless logic. I'll take that over decades of stalled development any day.
Turns out anything that Burnham did as Manchester Mayor was financed by the UAE not the UK.

So the city couldn't get a single other investor, Emirates money built nearly 5,000 homes, and I'm meant to believe this counts as a scandal. Because nothing says 'bad deal' like houses people actually live in.

Quite. It's the same as publishers slapping 'accessible' on a cover. Could mean anything. Usually means nothing. Been selling books long enough to spot the pattern. #BookshopLife
Well, quite. It is stupid and vague term that could mean anything from highly structured talk to having a bit of a chat to whatever sin the speaker wishes cover for.

City lose to Villa and suddenly everyone's an accountant. I read the Guardian piece: the investment restarted development nobody else would touch. 14,000+ jobs. Peculiar how that never makes the banter posts. #TitleRace
THE PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE RACE HAS JUST BEGUN! 😭🏆 Arsenal lost to Brighton, and suddenly, the whole world started predicting a Manchester City title win. But one thing I know about this Arsenal side is that whenever Mikel Arteta loses a game, he has a habit of responding with a winning streak. We might not see another defeat until 2027, that's typical Arteta over the years 😭 And remember, October is historically one of Arsenal's strongest months. Now look at the numbers. 👀 Enzo Maresca spent £450M in his first season at Manchester City and has 21 points after eight matchweeks. Mikel Arteta spent £150M last summer and, despite all the injuries, has the same 21 points after just seven Premier League matches. The weekend's results? 🔵 Chelsea lost 2-0 to Tottenham. 🔵 Manchester City lost 2-1 to Aston Villa. 🔴 Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 at the Emirates. This week, football won. The clubs facing serious financial scrutiny couldn't find their feet, while Arsenal kept collecting points. One day, everyone will have to confront reality. And if there's one thing rival fans should be praying for, it's that Mikel Arteta never gets his hands on the Champions League trophy. Because if he does, the noise will be unbearable. 😭🏆 By January, I believe Arsenal could have one hand on the Premier League title, with the Champions League becoming the next major target. The title race is far from over. But Arsenal are still standing, and that's what matters. 🔴⚪️
