Congrats to Parker McGowan, recipient of the Bill Roy Memorial SPJ Scholarship named for the late @ICTBizJournal editor.
A @KState sophomore, McGowan works at K-StateHD.TV and is a “Sports Talk” co-host on @Wildcat919FM. He aspires to cover professional sports.
“Being a fan of the game, playing the game, and reporting/commentating a game are all three different worlds, but when you’re able to help others relate to all three perspectives your job is made easy,” says @themyapeterson, a @UnivOfKansas student and sports journalist.
Congrats to Melanie Rivera-Cortez, an @elliottschool student who helped launched @KMUW's Spanish language newscast, “Radio Real."
"It is very hard for the Latino population to stay informed about what is happening in their own backyard" when they don't speak English, she says.
Congrats to @CtDunn7, recipient of a Bill Warren SPJ Scholarship. From creating newspapers on construction paper in second grade to pursuing a journalism degree at @UnivOfKansas, he's always been a storyteller. He wants to use journalism to hold those in power accountable.
Elizabeth Sandstrom hopes to use her skills in photojournalism to educate, document and artistically provoke thoughts and emotions. Currently a photographer for the @kstatecollegian, she is this year's recipient of the Randy Brown Memorial SPJ Scholarship.
Allison Campbell is pursuing a career in journalism because she is passionate about serving and protecting the helpless and underserved. The @sunflowernews reporter and photographer is a recipient of the Bill Warren SPJ Scholarship.
From a content creator to editor-in-chief at the @WashburnUniv Student Review in only two years, Aja Carter has shown her dedication to becoming a successful reporter. She's the winner of the SPJ Big Fish in a Small Pond Scholarship. Congratulations!
Congrats to @elboese15! She interned at @arkvalleynews
and now works for @sunflowernews, so it's fitting that she should be the winner of the Les Anderson Memorial SPJ Scholarship, honoring Ark Valley News founder and Elliott School faculty member Les Anderson.
Plan to come early for drinks and dinner.
@RoxysDowntown donates the theater to Gridiron without charge. Show Roxy's some love during Happy Half Hour and stay for dinner.
