A blockchain can be secure today and still face new security problems tomorrow. That’s one reason the crypto industry is paying attention to quantum computing and advances in AI. Let me explain why this matters. Blockchains use special forms of mathematics to protect transactions and digital assets. But a powerful enough quantum computer could eventually break some of the methods used to protect them today. And if AI helps people discover new mathematical techniques, some of the security methods we rely on could face new challenges too. This doesn’t mean those attacks are happening right now. It means the industry needs to prepare. This is where Starknet’s approach becomes interesting. Starknet uses something called STARK proofs. In simple terms, these help the network check that a calculation was done correctly without having to repeat the entire calculation. These proofs rely on hash-based cryptography, a different approach from the type of cryptography that powerful quantum computers are expected to threaten. @Starknet also has programmable accounts. This means developers can build wallets with different ways of checking whether a transaction is authorised. If a signature method needs to change, developers can introduce a new one without requiring the entire network to upgrade.
