Male urge to CNC machine my own gym equipment.
Looks and sounds like quality 🤌🏼

5 years ago I made a post listing a bunch of the coolest companies for people who wanted to work in space but didn’t know where else to apply besides NASA/SpaceX.

If someone says "Animated Film", my first thought has usually been Disney/Pixar. But now I'm wondering if I ought to be thinking Sony...
Apple: "Many of you missed using tabs in the Photos app..."
Translation: "Yeah, we really f-ed that one up."

This video by @smartereveryday should be required viewing for any #engineering student. Great concepts to think about in iteration, design, and #manufacturing philosophy, and kind of eye opening.

Since buying an EV, I rarely get to do "car things" anymore. Buuut... My wife's @Honda Fit died from sitting on the curb for a few weeks at a time. The phantom drain, as a proportion of the capacity of a tiny 151R battery was causing deeper discharge than desired.
Reddit users have pointed out that all it takes is a simple Xacto knife mod of the battery tray to fit the larger battery. And now I'll have greater reserve capacity in the battery, self-discharge being equal. This is a recommended mod for ppl in cold climates. #HondaFit
Disguising my #Tesla to avoid vandalism... Think it'll work?😏😂
Anyone flying a drone in the path of emergency responders is, at best, a criminally negligent idiot. #commonsenseisnotcommon
Damage caused to the Wing of one of only two Quebec-Based Canadair CL-415 “Super Scooper” Aerial-Firefighting Aircraft helping to battle the ongoing Wildfires across Los Angeles County, after it struck a Drone earlier today in Southern California, resulting in all Aerial-Firefighting Assets to be Grounded.

Saw someone complaining that the LA wildfires are wasting their time dropping 'Red Phosphorous' on the fires when seawater is right there.
Because of course, suddenly all the usual suspects are 'experts' in wildfire fighting.
The red stuff is Phos-Chek - that's a brand name
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phos-C…
It's a formulation that does multiple things, the water helps put the fire out, there's retardants in there to make it harder for the fire to propagate, and fertilizers that will aid in regrowth.
Why is regrowth important? Because when landscapes have been scoured by wildfire it increases the potential for mud slides when the rains do come, the sooner vegetation gets a foothold the less chance there is of a secondary disaster like what happened in Montecito
pulitzercenter.org/stories/c…
Anyway, there's also federal rules about what kind of retardants can be used on federal lands, and that kinda forces local agencies to comply since they don't want to be swapping out loads depending on whether the fire is on federal, state, county or private lands.
These @Vans are seriously Off The (Side)Wall after less than a year. Not impressed...
Something to bookmark as a future learning resource. Looking forward to seeing the videos posted.
Excited to announce that I will be teaching a course at MIT during the month of January titled Advanced Machining. I’m teaching the class that I wish I had when I was an undergrad: a practical deep-dive into all the details of machining, metrology, workholding, tool-selection, tolerances, etc. that you would normally learn after many years of experience.
It will be open to the public and also will be posted on YouTube :) Please let me know what you think! (Link in the reply)
Just uploaded a video about machining the most critical part of my custom Shapeoko: the X-Carriage. Everything hinges on this. Literally. The mechanical interface herr is where the most of the rigidity gains can be had on a Shapeoko 3/4.

There's a lot about this machine from the hardware design perspective I deeply respect. It looks like they stayed true to their ethos while making a solid machine. TBH, it looks so good I fear there's no reason to buy a MK4S...
Surprise!

Pretty neat system design/integration of all the parts in a Mac Mini. There's actually a lot to like, including the potential for third party SSD upgrades. I'm a fan.

Reminder to take an extra moment to stop, question, and corroborate anything that seems too perfectly engineered to elicit negative emotions this week...
One of the odd things I enjoy are songs reimagined in delightfully different ways. This is my new personal soundtrack when I go to Home Depot 😂
