A recent survey undertaken by our @WrappedRe research team that tested 11 #labels used on packaging in Ireland found that just over 7 in 10 Irish consumers look at the label before recycling @EPAResearchNews @RepakRecycling @Dept_ECC
Research by @WrappedRe found that different labels send out different messages to consumers: >50% incorrectly thought the green dot means it is recyclable vs >75% correctly thought the mywaste label is for recycling. @EPAResearchNews @RepakRecycling @Dept_ECC
Consumer survey findings by @WrappedRe suggests 48% are willing to return packaging to the supremarket, 37% consumers would accept another resuse bin, but only 15% would pay a deposit for packaging. @EPAResearchNews @RepakRecycling @Dept_ECC
Of 76 producer responses to the @WrappedRe sruvey from those in retail, food&drink and a range of other sectors, most packaging takes the form of #boxes (74%), followed by #bags (46%), pots/tubs/trays (45%) and #plastic films (43%). @EPAResearchNews @EnvDrJohnG @NicolaiThorball
#Plastic #packaging is reportedly high in #Ireland at 57.9 kg/p/yr, vs the average figure for the EU-28 of 31.9 kg/p/yr. However, Ireland measures this using the Waste Analysis method which may amplifies the result compared to most other EU countries @EPAResearchNews
Why do we have #packaging on our produce? Well the most important factor highlighted by producers in our recent @WrappedRe survey was 'protection against physical damage'. How do we change this? Consumers need to be heard and to lead this change @NicolaiThorball @EnvDrJohnG
Of 76 producer survey responses to the @WrappedRe project survey, 92% of producers use plastics. However, the type of plastic varies significantly. This presents challenging in #circulareconomy pathways for #plastics in Ireland @EPAResearchNews @EnvDrJohnG @NicolaiThorball
The linear to circular life cycle of #plastic #packaging is currently linear for most types of plastic. How we change this requires data as evidence to shape #policy #infrastructure and #techonology change. @WrappedRe @EPAResearchNews @RepakRecycling @EnvDrJohnG @NicolaiThorball

Plastic bags and plastic bottles represent most common litter found as plastic food containers are most pervasive form of litter, global study finds irishtimes.com/news/environm…
The gravity of this statement cannot be understated "Food packaging is an essential part of achieving Europe’s Green Deal ambition" globenewswire.com/news-relea…
Excesss plastic in packaging is very evident in many products and is one way to help how we reduce plastic packing, but it's still potentially single-use plastic. :/
