I stumbled across a post by someone who generates their books with AI and they were asking why it's so wrong when they still come up with the ideas and basically still edit and direct the story. And I was going to reply the usual, that AI steals words, sometime verbatim, from books whose authors never consented to their work being scraped. And while that's a really good moral reason to avoid it, I think the better reason is simply that you are cheating yourself. We all started in a place where we have ideas we aren't capable of creating yet. (This goes for artists too). Figuring out how to do those ideas justice is the entire point. Forging a tapestry, word by word. Getting better with every new story. Learning from those who came before us. The act of writing IS the joy. The end result is the icing.

There’s a reason the great dystopian novels envision a world without literacy. Those books warned about the very age we’re now living in. Those who abandon reading & writing are surrendering their powers of thinking. What’s shocking is that so many would surrender so readily.
We're about to enter a period where not reading or writing becomes as ubiquitous as smoking once was. We can hope people will eventually realize this is bad for them, as they did with smoking. But this is far from certain; the cost may not be as obvious.

For the longest time I was a solitary writer. I had no idea of others reading my work, & I had no friends or community to encourage, motivate, & learn from. Having that now is beyond my wildest dreams & I'm so grateful You write on your own but you're not meant to write *alone*

If I have 1 more subscriber to my newsletter, I'll reach a personal goal! In December you'll be able to read a short and sweet Novella that is a mix of Beauty and the Beast and Jane Eyre, set in the Regency Era. Right now, there is a flash fiction piece (@WriteforLife6 's flash fiction winning story!) or a historical romance rec list available for f r e e when you sign up! (and at least one of these may drop when I upload Ashes to Beauty) Check out the comments for 🔗

This was a trend over on another platform, but it was fun enough I wanted to share it here too One of those moments where yes, I am the author, but I am on the edge of my seat, my jaw is on the FLOOR

I highly recommend reading your book out loud after final edits (before final final edits 😂). Why? I just caught an accidental rhyme.

"It was a blustery day in October of 1880 when Sherlock Holmes was summoned to a student tenement near the University of London. The telegram requested my presence as well, which was unusual." ~~~ Read my latest story today only at gohavok .com!

I was planning on writing a blurb for my Windfall and Thorn-Cursed WIP. But I've run into a problem: I don't know anything about my MC. That's kind of important. All I know is that he's human, youngish, fairly competent, and accused of mrder. Other than that? nothin. Any ideas?

Just FYI...the little fluffy short story (it's not flash fiction, it's actually 2k words), is live. Check out the 🔗🌲 thing in my b!o and it's first on the list. No need to sign up for anything. This was a fun little thing I did for reaching a goal on Insta.
It's surprising how fun writing a fluffy rom-com style flash fiction piece is. It's so cheesy and sweet, and cliche, and awesome. Who knew?! Now to go back to my Jane Eyre meets Beauty and the Beast emotional Regency Romance 😅

This is one of my favourites! And hey, I also wrote a book featuring corrupt media and abortion, though it has a different twist. 👀
Replying to @The_Kyle_Mann
Don’t forget this masterpiece—villain was an abortionist and the entire mainstream media
