Here's a short articulation of what I call the participation theodicy. There's links in the follow-up, of short papers I've written as well as a couple discussions I've had with people going over it. nitter.gq/WriterJohnBuck/status/โ€ฆ
The one I find most plausible is my own, that the greatest thing God could do would be to create a perfect world through the contribution of creatures bringing it about. But, such would require initially creating an imperfect world with creatures where evils can occur.

If God is all-powerful, he can do all things without parts. If God can do all things without parts, no part is essential to him. If no part is essential to him, he is divinely simple.
Divine simplicity is incoherent, plain and simple.

If God is omnipotent, God can do anything metaphysically possible. If God can do anything MP, then there are no MP worlds without God. (Since one can only do something in a MP world if they exist in that MP world) So, an omnipotent God would be metaphysically necessary.

The Eastern Orthodox Church is against the death penalty and the cited reason is human dignity, same as the Catholic Church.

Question for pro-death penalty Catholics: In John 8 where the adulterous woman was brought before Jesusโ€ฆ 1: Did Christ have the authority to take her life as punishment? 2: Did he have the authority to forego her punishment?

If the answer to both is yes, then I see no reason to think that the state could also have this authority.

This is a great video going over a few miracles associated with saintly intercession. Very hard to disbelief in the face of the evidence. youtu.be/G6Zu0iAhSpU?is=yY6Iโ€ฆ

I had a disposition favoring death penalty before becoming Catholic, but I can see the reasoning behind the Churchโ€™s recent teachings on the matter. If we have the option of punishing a criminal with life in jail instead of taking their life, we should prefer the better option.
i think catholics shouldn't minimize the death penalty situation

This video from @CapturingChrist and Noah McKay (the 2nd Princeton philosopher to hit the towers) is just incredible. I don't know how someone could remain a reasonable naturalist after learning about these incredible miracles.

A Virginia father jumped into a septic tank to save his son๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ฆ He never came back up. Now the Catholic Church is taking a major step toward declaring him a saint. Tom Vander Woude was a farmer, Navy veteran, husband, and father of seven sons in Nokesville, Virginia. On September 8, 2008, the feast of the Nativity of Mary, his youngest son, Joseph โ€œJosie,โ€ who has Down syndrome, fell through a collapsed cover into a 7-foot septic tank. Tom didnโ€™t hesitate. He climbed in after him, held Josie above the sewage and toxic fumes, and shouted to a worker above: โ€œYou pull, Iโ€™ll push.โ€ Josie lived. Tom, 66, died there. This week, the Diocese of Arlington announced that his sainthood cause is moving into the official information-gathering stage. Bishop Michael Burbidge said Vander Woudeโ€™s last act was โ€œthe culmination of a Christian life marked by faith, charity, humility, fortitude, and generous service to others.โ€ His son Chris put it simply: not a day goes by without missing Dad, but watching that story still inspire people is a consolation.
