If you love our library system, fight back! The HB City Council started the day removing lots of books off shelves from children’s section at Central Library and now want to cut hours at Oak View City Library! And they proclaim that February is “We Love Our Libraries Month.” What hypocrites.
New Attack On Our City Libraries:
Dire news from the OVSD Superintendent of Schools to the Board of Trustees. Oak View City Library is being slated for reduction of hours. This will lead to closure. The City of Huntington Beach asked the Ocean View School District to agree to reduce Oak View City Library's hours due to “low foot traffic.” The current property use contract agreement requires mutual agreement between HB and OVSD for any change in hours. OVSD staff will meet with the library branch manager and then submit a letter stating the District disagrees with the proposed changes and the given rationale. OVSD refuses these attacks on our children and libraries!

Blue states too.
We need help out here, and we need those clearer heads once spoken of.
Potty training books, books about families growing in size, and books helping parents explain anatomy to young kids are not adult books. They’re literally teaching tools FOR parents.

revisiting this Clifton poem. if only more world leaders had “greater selves.” but it is up to those of us who do and are listening to continue the work

ALT it was a dream Lucille Clifton 1936 –2010 in which my greater self rose up before me accusing me of my life with her extra finger whirling in a gyre of rage at what my days had come to. what, i pleaded with her, could i do, oh what could i have done? and she twisted her wild hair and sparked her wild eyes and screamed as long as i could hear her This. This. This.

Y’all know you can count on me to cut through the @HouseGOP lies.
This week, they tried it again: blaming ‘Critical Race Theory’ in an Oversight Hearing on declining K-12 student performance.
I fact-checked them in real time: Critical Race Theory is not taught in K-12.

I talk a lot about the horribleness of the book banners. But tonight - let's raise up parents who just are doing the next right thing - advocating for kids and books and authors and librarians. These folks - honored to work with activists in FL and tx

We are asking ourselves the same questions. These bans remove opportunities for Texas students to succeed and excel. 😭

Media: in 2022 the Texas GOP declared Biden to be an "illegitimate" and "acting" President. They and he no longer recognize the authority of the federal government. Should be major news.
Why are the major news outlets ignoring Abbott's rebellion? There's nothing or next to nothing by NYT, AP, WaPo, CNN.com. I found one article in the Guardian: theguardian.com/us-news/2024…

The @oneclayschools Oversight Committee met this week and decided the fate of 35 books.
19 were returned to shelves, 7 were grade restricted, 8 were permanently removed (including @amypoehler’s Yes Please and Alice Walker’s The Color Purple)

The moment 1srael accused UNRWA staff of being involved in October 7, USA, UK, and other countries cut their funding to UNRWA. The involvement of a member or two of any organization does not mean the organization approves of this.
1srael has been killing children and massacring families in Gaza and cutting food and humanitarian support, even before October 7, but none of these governments cut their unconditional support to 1srael.
And even, why cut support to a refugee organization when the ICJ recently called for more humanitarian aid to enter Gaza?
I invite your governments to come to Gaza, bring your own relief workers to Gaza instead and replace UNRWA during this genocide.
You are welcome. But be careful of any 1sraeli carpet bombing.
Wake up!!!
Thank you.
