Americans see the word dictator and apply a moral judgment to the word. You have to unpack that connection before moving forward with the conversation. He is a dictator but that doesn’t speak anything into whether he was right or wrong.
You guys know Mao Zedong wasn’t a dictator right? It’s important to me that you guys know that
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Mao Zedong is widely described by historians as a dictator who held supreme authoritarian power in China. He explicitly advocated for and described his system as a "people's democratic dictatorship."

"Actual socialism is fighting for locally owned grocery stores"
Replying to @Madeline_McCant
Actual socialism is fighting for locally owned grocery stores etc (which ime are usually on par with Lidl in terms of pricing but ymmv) and publically owned transport systems to allow ease of access. Socialism doesn’t have to give into corporations just bc it’s convenient.

hmmmmm i wonder where the students of a prestigious university might be in the middle of the day during a week day. one can only imagine.
This deserted street is at the center of Boston University, which is supposed to have about 40 thousand students. Most are nowhere to be found.
The students you do see all look completely miserable. Everyone is foreign- not just in origin but in the world they inhabit. Virtually, she is far away- China, Valhalla, the moon, It wouldn’t matter. it’s not the phone that transports her, it’s her head that’s in the clouds. And she is all of us.
Decades ago, this part of campus had the best parties. Now, unfriendly strivers in fantasy worlds. A Tower of Babel, and the split is more than superficially linguistic

Hey so why do Israeli settlers who live in occupied Palestine get to vote in Israeli elections, then? Shouldn’t they, in theory, be voting in future PA elections?
Replying to @EmmaVigeland
crazy that non Israeli citizens can’t vote in their elections, Emma! Weird how Israelis can’t vote for PA elections (when they even have them)

You know you’ve got a healthy democracy when the Prime Minister is screeching in terror about “Arabs voting.”
