'Dragon Ball' Creator Akira Toriyama on Designing Goku:
"Goku is the type who wouldnโt talk if there were a lot of people around, so if I put out too strong a character, he could get upstaged. So I try to write him to be as much of a lone-wolf sort as possible."
(From his 1990 joint interview in Akira Toriyama: The World.)

Sonic fans really don't understand what static characters are. Static characters are not boring but fans make them out to be boring. It feels like they think if any characters react differently then it means they are "out of character"
It isn't that Sonic being static is boring. The truth is that Sonic fans do not understand what a static character is. Static Characters at their core at characters that do not change idealistically speaking. But that doesn't mean these characters are excluded from breaking down, giving in to negativity ect.
The problem is that Sonic fans think static like sonic = should be confident no matter what(when that was never the case)

Static characters are those who despite some changes, who they are & their core values still remain the same (Left)
Dynamic characters are those who change into being different people completely, have their actual core values change, or if they gone through a big change (Right)
