Crikey, the cost per day of hosting my blog has spiked a bit. Not sure where I'll find that 4 billion dollars!
Written mostly for UK friends figuring out where to put money: markamery.com/blog/low-coupo…
To my surprise (I always thought they were a terrible deal meant for weird ultra-low-risk investors), UK gilts are just an unambiguously better deal than the best fixed-term savings accounts.
I hate KYC checks. Bad law made worse by corporate ineptitude. @AskNationwide say I'll be locked out of my account in September unless I provide more personal info, but neither I nor their support team can find out how to access the form to do so after "Skip"ing it earlier today.
Which would be fine if I could actually find a way to get back to the form in order to enter my bank-approved lies into it. But I cannot! So I am seemingly stuck on an unfixable path to losing access to my accounts.
Tomorrow I start work on migrating everything to Natwest.
Until today, I did not realize that a simple regex match with a quantifier like:
text.match(/a+b/g);
takes worst-case quadratic time & needs a negative lookbehind to make it linear. How many times in my career must I have needlessly written O(n²) algorithms because of this?
Blog post explaining this: markamery.com/blog/quadratic…
(Not sure if you've retired the address - in which case may I suggest you scrub the mention of it from your contact page there? - or if it's supposed to be working!)
I've just deleted my original tweet about it to avoid linking to gambling spam, but FYI @GSpellchecker, it seems you've let your old domain lapse and now your old blog is gone and the domain is instead an advert for some shady Indian gambling site. How depressing!
I got sufficiently annoyed by the bad coverage I saw of the Laurence Fox libel case last week, especially in Spiked, that I blogged about it. There are interesting points of law involved here, and I wish we had journalists who would properly explore them.

Experienced web devs in USA: if you're willing to move to Los Angeles for some weeks or months, we can use you at @Curative_Inc to build internal webapps for our lab staff. We want to scale our Covid-19 testing facility from 100s to 10000s tests/day. Message my boss, @ihcturner.
Shog9 is a damn fine man who is admired by the Stack Overflow community, me included. I've watched him thoughtfully design software systems and thoughtfully defuse interpersonal conflicts with equal skill. If anyone in my small circle is hiring in this space, I recommend him.

Hey @guillermooo. Not sure if you've seen github.com/guillermooo/subli… yet, but it sounds like it can only be fixed by you. Do you have the time to handle it?
