Last week, we had a blast at the most important conference in the field - International Conference of Infant Studies #icis2024. Well done to our PhD students and postdocs who presented their amazing work. Huge thanks to all families in York who are helping to make science happen.

ICIS 2024 is almost here. YAY! Really excited to organize a pre-conference workshop. Great chance to chat with other researchers passionate about naturalistic approaches to understanding infant development. Join us on July 8th! The more the merrier!

New alert paper 📢!
Led by @HarryTMason, the most recent work on heart rate extraction from infant ECGs.
Huge congrats to @HarryTMason for the publication of his paper. Amazing work on finding solutions for processing real world big data for infancy research. Complete Pipeline for Heart Rate Extraction from Infant ECGs mdpi.com/2711978 #mdpisignals via @Signals_MDPI

I have another paper! Actually, I have a couple, but this is my main paper from the University of York. Many thanks to my co-workers for helping support me during this time. I’ve tried to write a simple explanation to allow everyone to understand.

*Why were you working on infant ECG?*
From working @YorkDSN looking at the development of young children. When you pay attention to something, HR drops and then stabilizes. Roughly, if an infant has that “drop-then-stabilize” HR shape, it indicates an ability to pay attention.

New pre-print out! It's been a very fun topic to delve into these last 2 years. Here's hoping any review comments are short but helpful :)
For anyone not aware, a pre-print is where you can put research you've submitted, but that hasn't yet been through peer review.
New pre-print from our ECG guru @HarryTMason . Well done Harry for developing such a useful tool for infancy research in the 'wild'! 🏋️♀️🏋️♀️
Bring on more infant ECG :) ❤️❤️

After testing infants extensively, with @HarryTMason leading this way, we now have a complete pipeline for extracting heart rates from infants' ECGs. Here is the preprint. Stay tuned for more exciting developments. 🤓

It's been very rewarding working on the ECG part of this project with @YorkDSN and more. Always cool to do interesting science that's also fun for the participants!
Our brand new head-mounted camera and wearable ECG sensor in action. Kids in our study are already 9-months-old, and having fun taking part in our project. Super cool developmental science in the making. Outside the lab, in the real world

We have worked so much in this project. It feels so rewarding when I see happy infants and caregivers enjoying and enquiring about the research protocol. A fantastic project run simultaneously in the UK and Brazil #postdocteam @HarryTMason 🤓
