Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table, At which he's fed. Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes are the rule. Tax his work, Tax his pay, He works for peanuts anyway! Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat. Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt. Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think. Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries Tax his tears. Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find any way To tax his ass! Tax him all he has, then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough. When he screams and when he hollers; Then tax him more, take all his dollars Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in Which he's laid... Put these words Upon his tomb: ‘Taxes drove me to my doom...' When he's gone, Do not relax, It's time to apply Inheritance Tax! #BudgetDay

As a lifelong advocate of print publishing, I sincerely hope he's right! However, the future of the @lancstelegraph's print edition will ultimately be determined by Newsquest's owners rather than its editor. #inprintwetrust holdthefrontpage.co.uk/2026/…

It's incredible that his septum still looks relatively intact.
COKE. STUFFED. It seems that nobody has ever advised the actor Zelensky that it is never a good idea to continuously sniff and rub your nose when relentlessly begging for more money for a corrupt regime. Or perhaps his advisors have the same social habits and are incapable of doing their jobs. This is who governments have been giving our money to without our consent. #NOtoUkraine

We're ruled by absolute numpties.
Today, this Labour government is abolishing standing charges on gas bills. @JohnHealey_MP and I are making energy bills fairer. Tackling affordability is my first priority and I'll keep doing all I can to protect people from unaffordable bills.

The Government has confirmed that Ofgem will be asked to implement the change in 2027 or as soon as possible afterwards. More importantly, the Treasury has confirmed that the costs currently recovered through standing charges will instead be incorporated into gas unit prices.
The cost will be added to the unit rate which adds more to bills for houses that use more fuel e.g. older houses or bigger houses. This is basically a form of communism.

In a few hours the Chancellor stands up. Before he does, remember who is holding the pen. John Healey. Twenty nine years on the taxpayer. In 2012, with 1,400 children raped across his own borough over sixteen years, he was "not convinced" an inquiry would help them. Then he sued the UKIP MEP who said it out loud, and took fifty four thousand pounds off her. And kept it. He did not pay the council tax on his second home. An "administrative error". He intended to claim the £1,469 back on expenses. And in June he resigned as Defence Secretary because the government would not commit to 3 per cent of GDP on defence. By his own letter, the country could not be defended. Today he is Chancellor, and he is already briefing that he will shelve the 3 per cent. So the man who walked out because Britain could not be defended is now the man who decides what Britain can afford. That is who signs the cheques. That is who decides how much of your money you keep. Listen to what he says. Then watch what he does with it.
My Budget today will help families with the pressures they face now. It will back businesses and entrepreneurs, invest in Britain's future, and strengthen our national security. A plan to get through this moment and build a stronger Britain.

Abhorrent.
UK: Somalian migrant Dahir Ibrahim has raped so many women at knifepoint in the UK it is almost unbelievable. These women's lives will be changed forever but he has successfully won several court cases now because of human rights laws. He has successfully appealed a prison term after multiple rapes and was given a community order. Within weeks he had raped more women at knifepoint. After being finally sentenced to 10 years he blocked the Home Office's ability to deport him (Kier Starmer might have been his defence). He has now successfully sued the NHS trust since despite being addicted to Codeine has has argued that he was made to take it during Ramadan which goes against his human rights. And he has won. You tell me how fkd up the UK is right now.

The Covid bounce that nobody did - or could have predicted - is clear to see here.
Total transaction values in England & Wales 2000-2026. 2025 was close to the total value seen in 2007 - the fall in volumes is only being outweighed by the rise in prices in recent years.

UK and EU gas prices now almost 12X US prices. Good that the Government has approved Jackdaw, but to bring prices down we need even more supply. Time to get fracking.

Broken system.
Back in 2010, the minimum wage was £12,064 and the 'higher earner' band started at £43,875. You only paid 40% tax once you were earning 3.6x the minimum wage. There was clear incentive to progress, learn and aspire for more. As things stand, you now start paying 40% tax once you earn £50,270 which is just 1.83x the minimum wage. If it was the same multiple as 2010, the 'higher earning' band would be £98,841 and everyone below this amount would be paying 20%. Someone on £98,841 is effectively losing out on £9714.20 net per year if the bandings had simply moved in line with previous multiples relative to minimum wage. This is one of the reasons why the middle class is being eroded and why there's a cost of living crisis in the UK.

Utterly mad. In just 8 days (20–27 October) Britain spent £158.6 million switching off wind turbines and paying gas plants to fire up instead. £19.8 million to turn the turbines off. £138.8 million to buy the electricity elsewhere. 602,000 MWh of green electrons wasted. Enough to power 200-220k UK homes for an entire year. This is not a transition. It’s an expensive, self-inflicted farce.
